Arachne

Biology

Anatomy

Arachne fall solidly under the Ruo Umbrella, hihc means they are a half and hald speiceis. in their case, it's half humainoid, half Spider, usually split down the middle of the torso.   An Arachne has 8 limbs, 6 legs and 2-4 arms depending on their birth. their torso is split in two, the upper half being longer and smooth while the lower half is round and bean-like.

Humanoid Half

first order of buiness, note the "humanoid" not "human". This half is humanoid, but not exact like some depictions show them as. The upper half of the torso and head are arranged and bear a resmblance to the humanoid catagory. Arachne diviate in several ways, however, such as having either 2 or 4 upper limbs, 6 eyes, and a lack of an external ear. the entire upper half is covered in a thin layer of fur, about half a centemeter thick at most.

Spider Half

The spider half is much more recognizable as a spider. a large, bean shaped body proportional to the humanoid torso, 6 long, segregated legs, and a spinner where all their silk comes from.

Facial Features

Their Facial Features are a blend of archnid features arranged on a humanoid face. on average, they have 6 eyes on the top, front of their heads, 2 located under the brow ridge, another set just below the brow tip, and the last set on the cheek blow and to the outside corner of the main eyes. they all blink in tandem, but the smaller ones sometimes blink more often for visual clarity.   Noses are typically flatter and more rounded in features, with long slits for the nostrils. their mounts follow suite, with a jaw hinge and 32 flat, omnivore teeth. they do have fangs made for injecting poision and draining blood from flesh. however, ever since things got a bit more civilized, they hardly every use their teeth for draining unless in dire circumbstances.

Body Tints

There is a wide variety of colors an Arachne can be naturally born with, ranging from deep navy blues, beautiful greys, and even some warm, dark reds and soft browns. all the colors are based off cave colors, and the typical Arachne will be hatched with a color pallet that will aid them in their surroundings.   Beyond color pallets, they can have beautiful mirrored designs that traveling down their spines and around their abdomens, all of which denote family heritage and geographic ancestral origin.

Senses

Sight

surprisingly, having more eyes does not give an Arachne better vision. Their feild of vision is just as wide but hazy and more light focused than other eyes. they see better in the darkness anyway, making daylight increadibly bright and hard to handle. Most archne need glasses, special ones that would both darken the haze and sharpen the image severely.

Touch

Instead of relying on their sight, Arachne are incredibly sensitive to touch. on all parts of their body. they can sense vibrations through any sort of survace that carries tention, decerning in beautiful accuracy where things are. Because of this, they tent to live in other Arachnid communities for better accessibility and understanding.   they tend not to wear anything another archne didn't make due to texture, and can get very picky when it comes to anything they'll have to touch.

Hearing

their hearing is muted, just like their vision, making most things vibration based rather than frequency. they can still hear, but it resembles sound coming through water or a thin wall, making them take extra effort to decifer fast speakers and slurred words.

Taste

An Archnes sense of taste is...complicated. they do have taste buds in their mouth that function very similarly to human or elvish tastebuds, but they also have sensors in their 6 legs along the bottom of their feet that..taste the ground the arachne walks on. these sensors are specially adapted to check things in their web for their toxisity and viability as food, and aren't specifically for actual pleasure eating. still, it makes touch a deeply intimate activity.

Smell

Just like with humanoids, their sense of smell is directly linked to their sense of taste. however, in an arachnids case, their sense of smell is dependant on their taste. without actually tasting somehting, they can't really smell it.

Dietary Needs

They are omnivores, definitely, that eat all sorts of things. they tend to l

Stages of Life

Yearly Behavioral Snapshot

The Cold Months

No matter the age, Archne get sluggish and lazy when the Winter months roll in. as swift as a the winter wind, production stops, collection stops, everything stops. Arachne settle down in their houses and caves with their egg sacks and babies to sleep, eat, chill, and grow in preparation for the summer to return. durring the cold, their thin fur thickens.

The Warm Months

Durring the warm months, culture picks up significantly. This is when they are most productive, thriving in the heat. durring this time, all their silk is produced, as well as when they begin developing the eggs that will hatch durring winter. at the beginning, their fur begins to thin as well. they usually gather this fur and make a very rare, ultra soft textile.

Geographic Distrobution

Arachne live pretty much eclusively in large caves tucked away in the southern mountain ranges. They don't do well in the cold which keeps them from migrating north and anything in the middle ground is covered by dwarves. given arachne and dwarvish history, they tend to never mix living spaces.   the magority of them live in Endmane, partnering with the tritons to make a stable country. the rest manage to find somewhere else to settle on the islands, still in cave systems and usualy hidding from the local cultures for fear they'll try to be friends.

Gender Identification

Arachne have two very strict Gender/sextual identies (sex in refrence to their genetilia). unlike many other species, there isn't culturally any middle ground, simply the layers and the seeders, or more commonly said, female and males.

Girls

There are significantly less girls than there are boys, born 1 to 5 or 6 depending on the year. This fact, combined with their matriarical structure, makes the females far more desireable than the boys. being born a girl gives then a step ahead in life. Girls are seen as more responisble, more talented, better thinkers and better parents. creative deisgn are headed by women, families ar eheaded by women, almost everything is headed by women.

Boys

While there are more guys than girls, Arachne often devalue the man in their capabilities, while they are stronger and more danger driven, they are expendable and can easily be replaced by another. They are often considered manual laborers, good for their silk and their actions, but not their oppionions.   however, they are usually seen as the face of the arachne because none of the women ever want to go be social if they can help it.

Relationship Ideals

Courtship

Its very customary for a woman to have several male partners, each bound by her silk in some way. The woman is then the head of the household, delegating all the chores and responibilities off to her men so she can have more time to do what she wants, be it hobbies or raising the children.

Ruo are a special case. given their connection to the humainoids and beast kind, they can reproduce with almost every other sentient species. Viability of the potential child is depentant on several circumbstances, but the possibility is always there.
