Shatterstone Therapy

A revolutionary new treatment among the Garruw, shatterstone therapy is designed to treat wing arthritis that some are afflicted with.   The treatment is a simple one. Everything except the patient's wings is wrapped in a treated, padded robe, to protect the patient, the patient is placed in a controlled room and sealed inside. A chemical formula is released in aerosol form, and a shatterstone is ignited at a particular angle.   It is unclear to an outsider how this might be effective, but it is a fairly well known fact that the Garruw feed off certain types of energy, so it is possible that the particular type of energy released in this explosion, combined with the chemicals, is enough to trigger certain elements of their biology.

Utility

The shatterstone's use as a medical device was discovered by accident, when a strangely fortunate scientist set off an explosion and happened to get caught in it in just the right way as to accidentally cure his arthritis. The particular nature of the explosion, as well as the angle at which he landed, released a number of chemicals and hit the tendons and joints and membranes just right as to trigger healing.   As the treatment stemmed from a device used to blow things up, the obvious misuses were already covered well in advance.
Access & Availability
Shatterstone therapy is such a new treatment that it is not widely available as of yet. In fact, the discovery has not yet made it out of the Agarruta Drei area. As might be expected, a number of people are rather dubious, so steps are being taken to thoroughly test the treatment to raise confidence.
Complexity
The shatterstones are very much a Garruw specific invention in that they are the only species that could hope to craft and use them with any particular ease. They've been used for a number of other purposes. This is the first time that someone has considered a medical use for them.   As such, the complexity varies. For a human or Weinadi, it would be almost unfathomable. For the Garruw, it makes use of one of their more instinctive technologies, albeit in a less than intuitive manner.
