Charsh Beetle

They live in the electrical storms and survive primarily off the energy of those storms, rather like the Garruw.   The beetles are about the size of an average human adult's fist, with a wingspan that would stretch across that same human's forearm. They usually have black carapaces, but as they age they turn more gray, getting lighter and lighter. When they die, they go completely white. The shells are used in Basadu art frequently, and by the Dheizei as disposable cups and such.   Swarms of charsh beetles will spend their entire lives within storms, shifting from one to the next as the storms build up and die down. During the falling storm season is when they come to ground in the mountains and have a breeding season. By the end of it, most of the adults are dead and the eggs are laid, to be hatched when rising storm season hits.   The average charsh beetle lasts through only one year. There are a handful of outliers who survive the privations of falling storm season and have been known to live via hibernation through several cycles. As such, the shift in carapace color is considered to be less a marker of age for modern science but to indicate how well fed the beetle has been.   The eggs are quite lovely, being a beautiful glossy green color to blend in with the rocks that they are laid in. Charsh beetles tend to favor Amdzha Crystal clusters as prime spots, but they will lay all over. Newly hatched beetles are a Weinadi delicacy.
