Riftwind

Riftwind is the town that sprung up near the Howling Abyss  once it's economic worth was discovered. The howling abyss is a series of large ravines stretching for miles. These ravines plunge deeper into the earth than anyone has ever gone and violent and unpredictable winds blowing from the depths make flight in and around the chasm almost impossible.
The sheer walls of the ravine are dotted with caves though, and these caves are rich sources of gems, so many mining operations are run from the town. The specialist equipment required to be lowered into and out of the ravines and the dangers that lie within are well worth it for the vast wealth that can be found in the depths.
