Energon

A multipurpose and multiform substance that is the primary and original fuel for cybertronians and cybertronian colony worlds. Raw crystal can be eaten straight, although the most energy efficient way of consuming energon is through refining it into a liquid state, which then can be refined or mixed into other products. Naturally occurring, but can be also be created the same way as it occurs naturally through combining anywhere from 15 to 40 different types of metals and exposing it to specific bouts of energy, be it electricity or otherwise. Natural energon is preferred due to the consistent texture, but extra metals that can make energon can be added to create different flavours, consistencies, etc. Energon that is created from metals with no previous energon additive is almost indistinguishable from regular energon that has been mixed with other metals post-refinement. Energon generators take the metal types given and extract base minerals that make up natural energon and exposes it to a very short and minimalist version of the natural crystallisation process. The energy process that powers the generator (solar, oil, electricity, geothermal, etc) each add a specific texture and flavour. The conditions to produce this generated energon are very specific, and thus isn’t overly easy to create.
While generator created energon may be mistakenly called “synthetic” energon, in the molecular structure it is energon. Synthetic energon is another substance altogether, that mimics the behaviour of regular energon but is made of separate mineral base that in no way identifies itself as energon. It is a very slow science to recreate, and over war time no one had made a lot of progress on it.
The processed energon inside a Cybertronians body is actually more akin to energon slurry than pure energon, as the fuel process includes taking the minerals included to create energon from the fuel a cybertronian consumes. Generators are based on this part of mechabiology. Processed energon can be consumed or transferred as regular energon, but with a lower fuel quality and a rather bitter taste. It is not recommended.

Material Characteristics

Energon varies along the red-purple-blue colour spectrum, with most natural crystals being either red or pink depending on the location of its growth. It is crystalline, resembling the appearance of quartz.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Liquid energon is explosive and flammable. While the crystalline form is relatively stable in regards to heat and flame, it functions more as a sympathetic explosive.
The less processed the liquid energon, the more explosive it is.
