Templars of the Balance
The Templars of the Balance:
Leader: Bernard de Blanchefort, male human, from Saxony, the leader of the Templars, known for being a just and powerful man with a strong sense of duty and honor, often he rides alone from the fortress to fight evil as often as he can and sometimes even struggles with those in his court who advise restraint, despite his age, having fought in the battle of Dread Harbor, he hasn't seemed to slow down in the slightest. He was kidnapped by the Black Hand who broke his mind by keeping him in a cell next to some ancient evil entity, he is recovering with the Sisters of the Sacred Sun
Champion: Godfrey Billos, male aasimar, from Rusonia, an ancient champion from before the Devastation, he led the humans in their exodus from Rusonia to fight against the elven empire and was noted for his efforts in preventing the genocide of the elves after their defeat, which earned him many scars and beatings as he had to fend off the blood thirsty humans he once called friends
Economy: Hughes de Payens, male dwarf, from Angrose, the templars uncovered this dwarf locked away in a collapsed vault where he had expertly organized the vast amounts of gold there during his long isolation, they offered him a job to which he gladly accepted and continues to manage their vaults to this day, he is somewhat insane and often talks to gold pieces but his insanity seems to have cured his racism and so he is one of the few beings in Europa totally devoid of any bias. He was slain when he helped the party escape Renald's mad plot
Magic: Arnaldus de Villa Nova, male gnome, from Natinal a powerful alchemist who uses his creations in battle to serve the Templars, he is obsessed with the idea of total racial balance and has sought to start a breeding program of sorts to restore races with fewer members to equal measures with humans. He seeks to start with gnomes and halflings, then elves and then all the rest. He was slain during the failed rituals Renald put on
Military: Renald de Vichy, male elf, from Castonne, Renald was the original ruler of the castle and was born a short time after the Devastation, he and a few hundred elves were hiding in the castle mountains as he grew of age. Then the Saxons found them and attacked in great numbers, Renald was still only a boy of 16 at the time but he was inspired and led his forces in such a way that they routed the Saxons all the way back down the mountain, he has since devoted his life to make sure that no race, no matter how evil they might be, goes extinct and to that end he is working closely with the dwarves and tieflings to uncover solutions to their low populations. He was slain during the red reunion and was reincarnated as a Kenku. He was slain by the party and consumed by the Raven Queen after he attempted to use a relic known as the Ransom of Vonaya to cull the human population but fucked up the ritual multiple times
Diplomatic: Richard of Calcun, male tiefling, from Polania, the only tiefling to ever receive the title of "honorary human" from the Saxons, Richard is widely loved by all as he is a paragon of charisma, peace, and protection of the weak. 200 years after the Devastation it was Richard who worked to unveil a plot that the tieflings had hatched to control the new human nations much like they had controlled the elven ones in the past, Richard stopped them by shedding a light on this and has sense stood as a paragon of utter natural law, in which he does his best to help the world flow as naturally as possible
Base: The base of the Templars of the Balance is a massive fortress located in the remote mountains of Polania. Its entrance is well-guarded and accessible only by a narrow, easily defensible trail. The fortress itself is a formidable structure, built to withstand the harshest of attacks. It is constructed of solid stone, with high walls and a towering keep that overlooks the surrounding terrain. Inside the fortress, the Templars have built a thriving community, with ample living quarters, training grounds, and other facilities necessary for their work. The Templars spend most of their time studying, meditating, and practicing their combat skills. They also spend a great deal of time scrying and divining, trying to gain insight into the forces that shape the world and how best to maintain balance. The Templars of the Balance are committed to the preservation of harmony and equilibrium in all things. They believe that the world is a delicate balance of opposing forces, and that it is their sacred duty to ensure that this balance is maintained. They see themselves as the guardians of this balance, and they are willing to go to great lengths to preserve it, even if that means fighting against overwhelming odds. And it is thanks to this impregnable fortress that they can do that.
Goals: The Templars of the Balance are a secretive organization whose primary goal is to maintain balance in Europa. They work tirelessly to ensure that no cults arise that seek to release the gods from their chains among the stars. In particular, they see the Cult of Martius as a dangerous enemy, and they spare no effort to prevent their machinations. In addition to monitoring for cults, the Templars also keep a watchful eye on the nations of Europa. They seek to prevent genocides and other atrocities that threaten to destabilize the balance between races. They also monitor the relationships between nations and try to avoid war if possible, believing that it is their duty to maintain the delicate balance in the world and all its inhabitant, organizations and nations.
History: The Templars of the Balance were founded by a group of champions from various races who had survived the Devastation that had torn Europa apart. Their goal was to ensure that nothing like that could ever happen again. At first, they started small, but with their growing success against cults, they began to attract more and more members and funding from nations that were grateful for their service. As the Templars continued to grow, they became more powerful and influential, and soon they were a force to be reckoned with. They were crucial in stopping the most recent plot from the cult of Martius, which further solidified their place in the world. However, with the influx of new recruits, the Templars have begun to lose their way. They have strayed from their original purpose, and the thin balance they once maintained is now becoming blurred. Many members of the order have started to question their role in the world and what they stand for, leading to internal struggles and disagreements within the organization.
