Leylines

Leylines:

All Magical energy exists throughout the multiverse and flows within and without all aspects of reality. In places where this magical energy flows particularly strongly, it takes the form of ley lines: potent conduits of magic that flow throughout Tesslutut and many other planes. Magical energy travels through ley lines much like blood flows through the veins of living creatures. Ley lines transcend physical form and can be found throughout the universe, through entire worlds, and even across planes. (p2e) Beings on Tesslutut can harness leyline energy and use it as a catalyst for spells and attacks. The leylines of the natural world and wild expanses can often be used as a catalyst to improve the power of spells and attacks. Activating a leyline is part of Casting the Spell. The leyline catalyst might increase the number of actions required to Cast the Spell, as indicated in the taping the leyline Activate entry. Additionally, the spell gains the manipulate trait if it didn’t already.

How do I use a leyline?

Step 1 Locating Leylines:

Well, first you need to know that is there. Locating Ley Lines: A character can locate a ley line with a successful Three action Arcana, Religion, Occultism, or Nature, depending on the color of the leyline check to Identify Magic, usually against a DC of 30 for a weak and minor ley line or 20 for a powerful one, but a particular line's presence might be more obvious if it has noticeable magical manifestations.   A successful check reveals the location and color of a ley line but not its potential extra capabilities.

Bonus Step 2 Determining a Leylines Power:

Each ley line has at least one color tied to a tradition of magic, in addition, they have additional traits based on one or more of the traditions in that color that can be activated either by chance or knowing that it is there. To determine the effects of a ley line, a character must spend 4 hours examining that leyline magic by completing a successful Lore (Specific Color) Leyline check to Identify Magic based on its tradition, with a DC equal to the rare DC of the ley line's level. Level 10 leyline = 27 +5= 32   A character learns when they find the exact position, strength, and bonus effects of a leyline. It can be extremely helpful for characters attempting to access the ley line's power but also very risky if they fail comprehend its power.

Step 3 How to tap the Leyline:

To tap a leyline you must have also studied the appropriate magic to use it with the correct lore corresponding to the the color. A creature capable of casting spells or using spell-like abilities can attempt to tap into an accessible segment of a Ley Line within 100 feet. You can use your magical prowess to temporarily access the power of a ley line to infuse spell attacks or other abilities.   Tapping the Ley Line requires a skill check using the Specific color Lore skill or the colors-related types of magic, Arcana, Religion, Occultism, or Nature. In cases where a ley line has multiple associated traditions, you can use any of the appropriate skills to Tap the Line. The benefits of a ley line are always magical in nature and can be counteracted in a similar way to a magic item.

Step 4 Using your tap action:

One Action: When taping the leyline for metamagic abilities Players Set a DC they want to achieve for certain different level metamagic abilities. Each level DC is in the chart below. Players add whichever choice they made to tap the line line in step 3. Leylines have a maximum level they can achieve meaning that some leylines can not support the level of magic someone is trying to use to infuse a spell. Easier at level one, Leylines can add only meta magic up to it max level. (Bloodmoor max level is higher than the mainland.)     Critical Success: You gain the ley line's benefits until the end of your next turn.   Success: You gain the ley line's benefits until the end of your turn.   Failure You take mental damage equal to 1d6 × the ley line's level. You can't Tap the Ley Line again for 1 hour.   Critical Failure As a failure, you're subject to the ley line's backlash effect. You can't Tap the Ley Line again for 24 hours.

Leyline Supernatural effects on magic and other magic abilities:

To harness a stronger leyline power for a longer period of time to infuse other types of magic or just empower yourself is possible by attuning to the leyline. Doing so takes 1 hour per 2 max leylines mastery level.   Attuning also requires a Spellcraft check with a DC equal to your maximum lore leyline color.
  • Untrained: DC 30 = 10 +20 = +1 to all tap checks using this sources magic.
  • Trained: DC 35 =15+20= +2 to all tap checks using this sources magic.
  • Expert: DC 40 = 20 + 20 = +3 to all tap checks using this sources magic.
  • Master: DC 50=30+20 = +4 to all tap checks using this sources magic.
  • Legendary: DC 60 = 40+20 =+5 to all tap checks using this sources magic.
Example: Attuning to the black leyline level, with training in Lore leyline black can attune by spending two hours and getting +1 with a DC of 35.   Success indicates the creature is attuned to the Ley Line and gains a +1 bonus to its effective caster level for all spells and spell-like abilities. This bonus increases by 1 for every 5 caster levels of the Ley Line, to a maximum of +5. Depending on the nature of the Ley Line convergence, this bonus may apply only to certain spells and spell-like abilities. For instance, a Ley Line convergence atop a great volcano might apply its bonus only to spells and spell-like abilities with the fire descriptor. Hags or other creatures with the coven ability benefit from the bonus of Ley Line Attunement so long as at least one member of the coven is attuned to the Ley Line and all coven members are within 10 feet of an attuned creature. Some Ley Lines also grant creatures attuned to them special abilities such as bonus spells, spell-like abilities, or other supernatural effects. Once a creature is attuned to a Ley Line, the bond is permanent unless dispelled. Dispel magic and similar effects can break a creature’s Attunement to a Ley Line; the caster attempting to break the Attunement must succeed at a caster level check with a DC equal to 11 + the caster level of the Ley Line. When an attuned creature is more than 100 feet from the Ley Line, it gains no benefit from the Attunement, but the benefit of its return when it is once again in proximity.

Multiple Metamagic Feats on a Spell: A spellcaster (or some special actions) can apply multiple metamagic feats to a single spell. Changes to its level are cumulative. You can't apply the same metamagic feat more than once to a single spell. Getting a crit success could also mean your spell can have additional bonus random effects.

Backlash The magical energy overwhelms your mind. You become stupefied 1 until the end of your next turn.

Leyline additional abilities:

Sometimes magic of Blood Moor is wilder than it is on other parts of the plane. When you tap leyline and cast a spell with the associated a specifically associated tradition trait that ley line has, there is a chance the magic goes wild and increases in size with additional benefits or even the possibility of penalties.

Unlimited Potential:

Leylines are very accessible all over Tesslutut and all leyline spell catalysts can be used in any location. There are some exceptions to certain areas of the world in which leyline magic could be more potent than spells which can have empowering effects, Or be so absent that casting magic is not possible.

Strong leyline Flows:

Detecting a strong leyline flow is natural for almost anyone who takes the time to examine the area. Anyone trained in leyline color lore can identify and determine the strength of a leyline. If a strong leyline is found, like those on Bloodmore, a caster can harness the leyline's magic to cast a spell specific to that leyline's magical tradition. To do this, the caster must perform the spell as a ritual, which takes a minimum of one hour per spell level. The difficulty class (DC) to cast the spell using the leyline is equal to the spell's level plus 10. If the spell requires any material components, those must be provided during the casting attempt.

Random Effects:

Nodes:

Ley line nodes are the point at which multiple ley lines intersect. Incredibly rare and powerful, nodes provide those who tap into them access to all of the intersecting ley lines' abilities, and they usually produce one or more additional effects based on the combination of intersecting ley lines. A ley line node's level is equal to that of the highest-level ley line that intersects at the node. Enterprising PCs or NPCs sometimes seek out nodes as sites to perform rituals to establish ley line nexuses. Such locations are jealously guarded by those who wish to claim the nexus's power.

Establish Nexus:

Requirements: Cast 1 day; Cost magical foci worth 100 gp × the spell level × the node's level; Secondary Casters 2   Primary Check Arcana, Nature, Occultism, or Religion based on the ley line (master Secondary Checks Ley Line Lore or Occultism Range 10 feet; Target(s) 1 ley line node up to double establish nexus's level   You focus the power of the node's intersecting ley lines into a powerful confluent point known as a ley line nexus. The ley line nexus grows out from the node in a 20-foot radius. The ley line nexus is more open and available for access to creatures you designate. When Tapping the Ley Lines, these creatures get a degree of success one better than they rolled.   Critical Success The ley line nexus is established. The nexus is particularly powerful, allowing it to continually refresh its magical energy; thus, the nexus lasts for up to 100 years, unless the ley lines shift.   Success The ley line nexus is established and lasts for a year and one day, unless the ley lines shift.   Failure You fail to establish the ley line nexus.   Critical Failure All casters take damage and suffer backlash effects as if they had critically failed to Tap every Ley Line in the node simultaneously, and they can't attempt to Tap those Ley Lines for a year and one day.
