Haugrkirk Emuna

The One, Holy, Ancient, and Universal Haugrkirk Emuna, shortened to Haugrkirk Emuna, is the largest denomination of Emuna, maintaining the allegiance of the continent of Eirene, the Kingdom of Yothia, and various small pockets of followers in Abrisom and Hinjaku.   The Haugrkirk considers itself the continuation of the Unbroken Church, splitting with the Imperial See in 717 during the Enetoi Schism. Since the death of Metropolitan Boutros II in 737, metropolitans of the Haugrkirk have been elected from the Enetoi Cardinals, and claimed the universal jurisdiction enjoyed by metropolitans from before 717.   The Haugrkirk recognizes the four Theological Councils of the Unbroken Church: Berytus I (98 IB), Salon (170), Berytus II (380), and Apannina (470), along with its own Eliseira I (717), Eliseira II (737), Boutros (850) and Marsal (999).   Like the other orthodox Emuna denominations, the Haugrkirk recognizes the seven Sacraments: the Covenant of Drowning, Name of Death, Priesthood, Anathematization, Espousal, Flesh of God, and Chaos Seals.   The theology of the Haugrkirk is rooted in Western Emuna, which places less of an emphasis on mystical thinking and a greater role on right belief and correct practice. This trend grew out of the need to combat the heresy of Semelism in western Eirene, and mystical, complicated theology was blamed in part for allowing it to flourish. Most Haugrkirk theologians subsequently focused on simple and easy to understand explanations and commands until the Western Theosis trend in 900. Thereafter more complex and mystical thinking and practice became accepted, and monasticism emerged in the west for the first time. The first Haugrkirk Metropolitan, Boutros II, came out of Agape, wherein the syncretic heresy of Turatism was more easily combated by western simplicity, and he surrounded himself with similar thinkers in the west after the Flight to Enetoi in 715. Many Imperial theologians have criticized the Haugrkirk for being too literal and rigid, and for its unwillingness to tolerate most theological innovations. Despite this, the Haugrkirk has a far more definite theology than the Imperial See, holding three more Theological Councils than the east, and adopting as universal dogma several beliefs disputed in the east.   On account the practicality of Western Emuna's theology, most Haugrkirk clerics are married (other than Presbyters) and have children. In many regions these "priestly families" produce the local clergy of subsequent generations, creating a kind of "clerical class".
