Imperial See

The Holy and Universal Imperial See, simply called the Imperial See, is the second largest denomination of Emuna, maintaining the allegiance of the Berytusian Empire, along with most Emunite communities in Abrisom and Midesia. Small communities of followers also exist in Zwergin and the city of Merita in Gothtar.   The Imperial See considers itself the continuation of the Unbroken Church, splitting with the Haugrkirk Emuna in 717 in the Enetoi Schism. The first Imperial Metropolitan Ymir IV was elected in 716 by the Third Council of Berytus (called the Anti-Council of Berytus in the west), replacing Metropolitan Boutros II as head of the metropolitanate in the sedes controlled by the Berytusian Empire. The western First Council of the Eliseira in 716 anathematized the imperial bishops, cementing the schism.   The Imperial See recognizes the first four Theological Councils: Berytus I (98 IB), Salon (170), Berytus II (380), and Apannina (469 along with its own Third Council of Berytus (716).   Like the other orthodox Emuna denominations, the Imperial See recognizes the seven Sacraments: the Covenant of Drowning, Name of Death, Priesthood, Anathematization, Espousal, Flesh of God, and Chaos Seals.   The theology of the Imperial See is rooted in Eastern Emuna, which places mystical experience and direct contemplation of the Heliand as supreme, and discounts much of the argumentation regarding right belief and practice. Eastern Emuna is the oldest form of Emunite theology, and has a wide range of positions and practices within the orthodoxy of its five Theological Councils. Monasticism is common, and most Imperial clerics are unmarried and celibate.
