Drift-pod balaceti

The drift-pods make up about two thirds of the balaceti clans of Teshelyn. Generations ago, all balaceti pods were united under Kebria's leadership, organizing for the first time as more than a loose network of family groups. But after Kebria's death, clashing ideals and struggles for leadership threatened the balaceti's way of life.
Many balaceti cherished their peaceful lives by the shore, but others found it too crowded or too controlled. The founding clans of what would later be known as the drift pods opted for a nomadic lifestyle in the open ocean, exploring the unknown and challenging themselves to become ever stronger.
The structure of the drift pods hearkens back to balaceti lifestyles before Kebria's unification. Although both the grove pods and the drift pods organize around family networks, drift pods tend to be much smaller and span fewer generations. Drift pod matriarchs are generally much younger than their grove pod counterparts, but wield less influence over the community as a whole.
The drift pods subsist via hunting. Their transient nature makes it difficult for them to domesticate and farm the way the grove pods do, but they compensate with effective and creative hunting techniques. Seals, sharks, and other large fish make up most of the diet of the drift pods.

Courtship Ideals

Drift pod courtship is usually quick and informal. Individuals will usually pair outside of their extended pod network, and in most cases begin to plan their own pod soon after. The only formality is the approval of their respective matriarchs. This is usually not an issue, but if a matriarch or another family member needs care or support, they may instead try to have the partner join their pod rather than start their own together.
