Lumina Character in Teryn | World Anvil

Lumina

Lumina awoke after Argad and was instructed by him and Feru in Shābalak. But she possessed the knowledge of Shālemna, a measure of the knowledge and wisdom of Shapla. Some Shegid scholars have suggested that this was the origin of rūn, a belief not disputed by the Mazrūn of Shādād Rūn.   She was the undisputed master of rūn, able to bend and weave them in ways her siblings couldn't even comprehend. It's said she set them into mundane items just to have more canvases to practice her combinations.   More than a Mazrūn, a rūn master, she earned the epithet of Ekhagrūn, which became her title and cognomen. Lumina was the rūnmaker.   The original Shādad Rūn was founded in her city, Lumihal, and grew to be a great university to rival the size and grandeur of a palace. Even the great college of Bartoq is a mere shadow of what she made back in those days.   Lumina had her flaws, though, and she was impatient with people who couldn't stand on her intellectual level. This led to periods of withdrawal and depression where she completely threw herself into her work. It's said she created the rūn later incorporated into the Ushgēd during one of those episodes.   She wielded the hammer that shared her cognomen, and Ekhagrūn was used to forge rūn into innumerable items over her lifetime.   The clans Ekhagrūn, Lamna, and Alum claim direct descent from her.   Luman, a legendary and lightweight precious silvery-white metal that was malleable and corrosion resistant but which Shāmalta have lost the ability to produce since the fall of the First Empire, is named in her honor.

Artifacts

Ekhagrūn: the holy of holies according to any Mazrūn; the sacred symbol and quest for followers of Zepid. Art depictions and historical descriptions differ on many details, but all agree that it was a single-handed hammer of extraordinary size and perfect balance, with a two-sided head. Upon the head and shaft was a flawless tapestry of every known rūn.

Ahh, so a dwarf that’s attuned in magic! I love her and how nerdy she is, and the art you’re getting of your characters is so ***ing cool! But, I do have a few questions   1) What is the Run? is it a magic system?   2) You could do a lot with explaining the various terms you employ in the article such as run, bartoq, Vegrahid because while I know what these mean ( sage for run), Others who’re new to this wouldn’t feel like it. So some explanations and tooltips would go a long way!   All in all, I really love your ancestors. Oh and if I may suggest something, maybe making one giant article about the ancestors as a whole and then linking each ancestor article under headers of their names would be a good way to introduce them!   Loving Teryn so far. :)

Run singular, rūn plural, pronounced like rune in English. They represent the written form of the language of creation, the programming code for reality if you will. Dwarves understand the "wild magic" of others in the sense they acknowledge it exists but don't use themselves. A run is essentially a spell, causing an effect from seemingly nowhere. Their primary use is in enchanting items. For example Relarial's sabers in b2 have several rūn: energy (lightning), protection (grounding said energy for her, lol), general protection, and luck.
