Canizas, The Second Layer
The second layer, Canizas, is the realm of buzzing jealousy. The viscera and blood from the first layer falls down in this layer, and for this reason corpses and dead bodies dot the land. It is also for this reason that many of the devils and demons display some amount of necromantic skill, and macabe architecture and clothing is the norm in this land. The souls trapped here are those cursed with unending jealousy, driven to madness to covet what others have. It is not greed, as greed is desiring something one already has, while envy is to crave what others have to the degree of madness inducing. The layer used to be ruled by the Arch-Devil Dozgan, but he was slain by his own sister and now ruler, Beelzebub. Her calamitous landing resulted in a great crater upon the land, and black smoke and smog to blanket the entire sky.
In the image of Beelzebub, the land is dotted with buzzing hives of insect/fly like demons and devils, and those devils who style themselves as rulers and central pillars of all reality. It is the land where swarms of devils live and die in disgusting hives, plotting and scheming to kill all around them. There is no central authority save for Beelzebub, but even she knows that her rule is only secured by her strength of arms, for all her children desire to kill her. Her central point of power is a great city known as the Citadel of Grace, ironicly made to look beautiful in this sea of rocky, wasteland. It is a pale mockery of the architecture reportedly found in Caelum, and the guards of this citadel have rusty, dirty golden armor. Beelzebub rules form the Court of Infinite Black, her beautiful yet terrifying visage constnatly bringing in minions to try and placate her with offerings, but none truly please her. The only possible thing that could please Beelzebub is to return to the heavens as ruler instead of mere servant, and pray that this reality remains a fantasy.
