Imperial Oil
Imperial Oil is one of the oldest and most powerful megacorporations on Tersten. It is a multinational and multiplanetary oil and gas company headquartered in Tersten City. Imperial Oil was founded in 29 PC as the Goron Oil Company, by Slim H. Major and Terrance Daniels after discovering oil in the Goron Oil Sands. The company operated a small extraction and refining process near the city of Goron, and came to the attention of the Pinascimate Republic, who helped to finance rail infrastructure between Goron, Lawless, and Tersten City, the precursor to the modern Pipeline systems.
In 37 PC the Goron Oil Company was nationalised by the Tersten State and placed under the control of Tersten Energy, a government-controlled corporation responsible for handling the extraction of resources from Tersten and their subsequent extraction off-world in a tightly-controlled colonialist system. Following this, in 39 PC, the Goron Oil Company was handed over to Percival Lovettica, a cousin of one of the high ranking members of government of the People's Republic of Lordania. Lovettica however, was no ally to the Tersten State, and instead formed an alliance with many of the 'old money' Upper Lordanian families on Tersten, such as the Dowerbridge Family. With money from the Tersten State, Lovettica was able to not only expand the oil extraction industry across Tersten, but also establish a network of contacts and business partners known as the Imperial Oil Corporation. Now all they had to do was wait for the inevitable to happen.
When the Tersten State finally collapsed following the Great Revolution, the Corporation was in an excellent position to re-establish itself as a major producer of oil. The recently expanded Goron Pipeline allowed for the non-stop exporting of oil and natural gas across much of the Sahamptha and beyond. Imperial Oil soon became the biggest exporter of hydrocarbons in Western Tersten.
Imperial Oil remains under the control of several powerful families, most notably the Lovettica Dynasty, who remain a significant player in the Second Lordanian Republic. Most recently, this has put them at massive odds with the nearby Communalists, who oppose the corporate control of Tersten's resources, leading to brief struggles and the occasional skirmish.
