Blackstrap

Blackstrap is a type of rum, historically produced on Earth, but now largely produced on Tersten, in and around the Two Brothers area.   Blackstrap is produced using low-sugar molasses, using the byproducts of sugarcane juices. It has a bitter and earthy flavour that has made it the drink of choice of many a Rancher.
The most popular consumable Blackstrap Rum is called "Two Brother's Blackstrap", which was historically produced in Two Brothers, in the Barkeater Hills, but production has since been taken over by the Booze Barons, who mass produce Two Brothers Blackstrap from the Barton Breweries. This brand is more popular off-world, where it is purchased by the gallon by the free markets of Sol.  On Tersten however, Two Brothers is one of the lesser preferred Blackstraps of choice, with the most savvy of alcoholics choosing to buy from minor independent sellers, as opposed to the massive corporate alcohol industry.
Blackstrap makes up a large part, but not the majority, of all rum production on Tersten. It remains an extremely profitable drink.  It is commonly consumed by the Ranchers of the Lawless Frontier, especially when mixed with coffee.  Blackstrap and Coffee is traditional drink known as a Gargled, typically swilled around the mouth of a sleepy cowboy to wake them up. The bitterness of the blackstrap only adds to the taste.
