Sablesteel Maw

A major, and possibly the most distinctive, geological feature of the Genfreet Mountain Range is the Sablesteel Maw. It last erupted nearly a millennia ago  and while dormant now, it still remains incredibly hot. Scholars and geologists who study the volcano estimate it should not erupt again for at least another several thousand years.   Originally called the "Genfreet Maw" or just the "Maw" (and sometimes still colloquially referred to as the latter), the volcano was renamed to the Sablesteel Maw due to the heavy contamination of all the minerals and magma with a carbon-like substance from the last eruption. The new "black steel" Kore began to produce as a result, called sablesteel, was lighter and stronger and capable of being worked to become more durable and sharper than standard steel. The unique carbon-like substance in the resultant steel hardens, condenses, and alloys with the rest of the steel during the forging process, which takes advantage of the immense heat of the volcano. More obviously recognizable to the passerby, the resultant sablesteel appears much blacker in contrast to the silvery appearance of more standard steels.

Geography

The Sablesteel Maw is part of the Genfreet Mountain Range. It's possible it isn't the only volcano in the range, but it's by far the largest and most active.
