Noirinan
City Description
Noirinan is an ancient Snow Elven city, known as the City of Royal Tombs. Built from the same beautiful white brickwork of Maril Osto, the city looks beautiful from a distance. Many of the buildings have red wooden frames, it creates a unique look that is not seen elsewhere in Heleg Parath. The roofs of many buildings are designed in a unique way, that are nothing like the known Snow Elven style. Several layers on them, several roofs are mokoshi and chigi in styling.
Noirinan is sat in a valley, creating a perfect defensive position as it made it difficult to fully encircle the city. The contents of the city was spread across several hills, each hill likely holding several tombs of previous members of the Glacier family.
The city is rather large and not populated like you'd expect. Where as Maril Osto makes the most of the space available. Noirinan makes the most of the nature, every alleyway is wide enough for a wagon to go through. Creating an incredibly spacious city.
History of Noirinan
The Founding:
The land was always inhabited, before the city was constructed there was a small fishing village that would bring fresh fish to market at Maril Osto. However, the town was always being raided by demons from the north.
This would be stopped when an ancient Loxodon prophet, known as Eldrum would visit the village that was at the center of a never ending war, between the Snow Elves and the demons of the north. These demons would stop their wars when Eldrum appeared, in awe of his strength and conviction, they agreed to a peace treaty, that resulted in the fishing village of Noirinan to be founded, were all were welcome to live.
Erthad's Robbery:
In 1E 247. The kings tomb was raided, as two Leonin smugglers tried to steal the body of High King Erthad Glacier. They would have been successful had it not been thanks to the late night walks of Belegur in love with the beauty and serenity of the royal gardens, he would often walk them late at night and that was when he discovered and killed the bandits who were trying to break into the coffin, two guards had rallied to his cries for help, although in the fight the occurred, they would both lose their lives.
This would occur before Alsorin would become High King, however his entire reign would work towards building his planned city, a plan he made as Crown Prince. While prince, he would spend several months travelling the region looking for the perfect place, after returning home he would be told of a small hidden fishing village a few days north of the capital.
By 287y, construction on the city had begun, with the old village beginning built around. The plan was to build an underground city with several entry points, there they bury the Glaciers, each section would hold a wing of the family.
The construction would be delayed for centuries as funding would constantly be a problem, with Alsorin's death many nobles had hoped the city would be abandoned, High King Eriladar Glacier would ensure his fathers hope was completed. This would be completed in 597y.
With the cities construction complete, it would become tradition that a cousin, or close relative of the king would be given Noirinan to rule in their name. The city would also begin to host the base for the Golden Order of Voronda, they would stay there until 1E 700y, although this was unofficial.
Order of Surus:
With the port of Noirinan growing. The Loxodons of Pachydermata would begin to sends students of Eldrum to the city, as it was easier to land a ship there then at Maril Osto, where the dock charges by the hour. This is where a young student, obsessed with Snow Elven culture would arrive, the young cleric of Gothmog, Surus. He would set up a small Loxodon Embassy in the city, focused on supporting the Loxodon researchers and their journeys to the Elentine tower.
During the fraternal maelstrom Torgoth Glacier, soon to be Torgoth Aurgirmel, was placed in charge of the protection of the city and this would be where he and Surus became close friends. When the war was over, Torgoth would leave to travel and as a result he would place Surus in charge, during this time the city was attacked by a last band of the bastards who fail to break the city thanks to Surus. Who holds them back until, the new High King Faenor can arrive with his army.
As a result of the Fraternal Maelstrom, The monks of Surus would be formed. An order of warrior monks who would swear to protect the grave city of the Glaciers.
The Great Fire of Noirinan:
1E 984y. 02, 18.
The great fire of Noirinan, would destroy over half of the city, burning a line through the city trapping thousands within the city, the fire spreading further in, pushing more and more to the shore line. Hundreds died, it would have been thousands had it not been for the Gondir fleet, it was sailing back from a dispute with the Island Elves and was intending to sail the coast of Helmi Tielte, attacking the few remaining bastard outposts and the pirate coves that had sprung up. It luckily arrived during the fire and helped evacuate many of the citizens who were trapped by the flames.
Not only did hundreds die, but Torgoth Aurgirmels only son Adresin Aurgirmel would burn to death in the fire.
