Deremonte

In the days following the Destruction of Dahak, a great number of earth shattering battles occurred throughout Londe the army of heroes began to hunt down the demons and dragons which poured into the world with Dahak's coming. Now that their master was dead they could at last be killed and would not return as they so easily had done so many times before. One such was more cunning than its brethren and so devised a plan to remain in this world. Once it had found a suitable hero it let itself be defeated and then tricked the hero into imprisoning it within a mountain instead of killing it, as then it would not be reborn no matter how many eons passed.   Years became decades which in turn became centuries and when the demon no longer felt the tug on its mind, which comes from those with knowledge of it and comes more strongly from those thinking of it, it knew its plan had succeeded. However, though time was little obstacle to the demon, had not decided to remain in this world simply to languish under a mountain. The demon began to project its mind outwards, and as it became aware of the world outside its prison its pleasure grew. The people who had hunted him were all dead and those who remained thought his kind a threat of the past, if they had ever truly existed. So when the demon called to the stone workers of Lazulyan, they came and suspected nothing. They built a castle from the stones of its mountain, and as they did so began to dig deeper. They found the demon where he was, but the hero had been no fool.   The demon was bound by powerful magic, and no amount of power the stone working people of Lazulyan had could overcome it. So the demon taught them his arts until one fateful day a stone worker became jealous of the others and turned and fell upon his brethren so that he would be the only one with the demon's power. When he told the demon its fury became such that the stone worker realized his mistake and ran from the cave in terror. He sealed the mountain and abandoned castle, cursing the spirits of his fallen brethren to guard the way against others would come.   Much later, a band of refugees fleeing the war which ravaged their home came to the valley. They attempted to rebuild the castle which had fallen into disrepair but the spirits drove them off with ill fortune and deadly accidents. The people settled instead in the surrounding valley, as it was hidden from the world and a good place to make a new home. The new village came to be called Oldcastle and after generations had passed there another came to claim the castle the stone workers had built.   A man with soldiers and a mage came to Darkwater Valley and named himself to be Baron Xavier Arsenault, and proclaimed that he was the rightful owner of the castle. The villagers took no issue with this as they knew it to be haunted and warned him of such, but the Baron did not heed their warnings. His men repaired the castle and if they died in the process he recruited more from among the villagers. In this way, Darkwater valley and the village of Oldcastle came to be ruled by a new lord, Baron Xavier Arsenault of Deremonte.
