Redwater Town Watch

The town watch was created to provide basic protection to the citizens of the Redwater. While the watchmen provide security for the town in the way of law enforcement, they also assist in fire and medical emergencies.

Structure

Magistrate - The magistrate is a public official given their position by the baron. The magistrate is responsible for making sure the captain of the watch enforces the laws of not just Redriver, but also the laws of the land as well. This position is thus always held by an elf. This position is officially over the Captain of the Watch, but does not have the power or the authority to directly replace the Captain or his or her subordinates. The Magistrate's jurisdiction is throughout the entire barony. The magistrate is responsible directly to the Baron of Riverrun, and thus get paid directly from the Baron/Baroness. There can be only one Magistrate in the Barony at a time.   Captain of the Watch - The Captain of the Watch is appointed by the government of Redwater. The Captain reports to both the Magistrate and the Lord of Redwater with the later being the Captain's employer. The Captain is responsible for the safety of Redwater. This includes enforcing the law, fire protection, and helping the sick and injured get access to medical care. There is only one Captain of the Watch at a time.   Sargent of the Watch - A Sargent of the Watch is responsible for the men under him, and making sure they perform the duties as requested by the Captain. There can be multiple Sargents at a time with each Sargent having 4-6 watchmen under him at a time. The are additionally responsible for training and equipping the watchmen under them so the Watchmen are equipped, trained, and ready to respond in an emergency.   Watchman - The Watchman is the lowest level of the town watch. They are the general foot soldier performing most duties required to keep the town safe from emergencies and are the ones to respond in an emergency.
