Dwarf
History
It is recorded that dwarven ancestors were once humans. Dwarven historians tell of the "First Generation" being a mix of many groups of humans who were fighting back against the arrival of the elves on Terrasol. Tales of fierce battles are sung by dwarven bards, telling of how the First Generation was driven back from their homelands by the magic of the elves. They were driven into the mountains and caves within. Over time, these groups of humans dug into the mountains, connecting to what is now the outskirts of the dwarven lands. They learned magic to help them see in the dark. It was used so often, that soon it led to mutations in those who lived in the mountains so that they could see more easily. Their bodies began to adjust to the hard labor of digging, and they developed a shorter stature to walk more easily through the caves. The dwarves continue to dig for more resources, as well as artifacts and great wonders below that they've heard of in tales, that may be used to drive the elves from Terrasol once and for all.Physical Description
Dwarves are built short and stout. Their underground life has prioritized the shorter builds in return for a stronger constitution. It's considered a great feat to out-drink a dwarf. Due to seeing much of their life in black and white from their dark vision, dwarves have turned to using the hair on their head to help identify them. This has resulted in hair, both facial and on top of their head, being a part of their person and it is very distinctly worn by each dwarf. It is said that a hairless dwarf is a dwarf without a self.Society
Their society has been very regimented from its first days. This comes from its military origins and has continued out of a necessity to service and is shown in titles, such as Camp Commander and Admiral of the Depths. All parts of the society work toward the goal of defeating the elves. Each dwarf is raised with their dwarven parents telling them stories of the atrocities of the elves, and how the honor of the family rests upon each preceding generation. This honor is gained by advancing the overall societal goals.Relations
Dwarves see themselves as the defenders of Terrasol that were abandoned by the rest of the world when they worked to drive the elves back through their portal. This feeling of abandonment has lasted to this day and affects their view of many of the world's races.- Elves - Dwarves generally take a hostile stance towards elves. This stems from their long history of conflict with elves. The initial conflict has never been settled as both sides seem to have unconditional terms of complete removal of the other species from Terrasol.
- Gnomes - Dwarves look at gnomes as untrustworthy and are unfriendly toward them. This is due to the strong ties gnomes seem to have with elves.
- Half Elf - Dwarves tend to be unfriendly to the half-elves. This is due to the elven blood that runs through the veins of the half-elf. For this same reason, they see them as a possible tool and ally due to the human blood that also runs through them, making them a possible means to an end.
- Half Orcs - Dwarves get along with half-orcs quite well. They feel like distant cousins that have also been cast aside. They always keep an eye on half-orcs to make sure they are no longer under the control of the elves, but this concern has slowly disappeared over the centuries.
- Halflings - Dwarves do not trust halflings. After being betrayed by rescued halflings in the past, dwarves have generally cast halflings aside as "brainwashed to the core" due to elven breeding techniques.
- Humans - While many dwarves feel abandoned by humans long ago, they feel sorry for how humans are treated as property and, at times, objects like other animals on the planet.
Alignment and Religion
When respect is gained from a dwarf, he or she will fiercely defend that individual. This respect is generally gained in a battle during which it is shown that the dwarf can depend on the other to stick with them. In addition, the cause of the dwarves is to free Terrasol from the oppression of the elves. Their aptitude to defend the weak and helpless, while trying to justly apply punishment, makes many of the dwarves lawful good.Adventurers
A lone dwarf is a rare sight. An adventuring group of dwarves is a lot more common, as they join together to adventure into the depths of the world or above ground into the elven lands. One can find a dwarf with other adventurers, but a lone dwarf stranger is quite a rare occasion.Game Rules
