Grand Cathedral Library

A place untouched by the wares of war, a place for records and books, of scrolls and tales, both fiction and fact all manner of histories reside here. This is a place for stories to rest, and to be archived within the numerous shelves and rooms and dorms within it's walls.   The Cathedral is for those who worship history at its finest, who believe in the Keepers message, and understand that above all things, history is to be kept sacred, for there are those who would repeat it.

Purpose / Function

To store all collected knowledge throughout the world. If One needs to research into any topic they should find copies or originals of both public knowledge and forbidden works within the Walls of the Cathedral.   The Cathedral Library is also dedicated to two specific Gods.   The God of Records and The God of Knowledge.   Those who understand the importance of logic and importance of history come here to both worship and pledge their lives to protecting and keeping all knowledge safe.

Alterations

The Cathedral has been added upon over the almost thousand years of its existence. Both above and underground the Cathedral is expansive and has the most collected knowledge within its high walls in history.   There are underground labryinths, towers that stretch into the sky, dorms and study halls built into the ocean depths floating among fish and shark and squid, deep under its surface. The Cathdral additions are so large and numerous that only those that specialized in the history of the Cathedral itself know and understand the vast labryinth that the Cathedral has become.

Architecture

There are multitudes of different architectural influences within the Library. From Centrallian Terrs, to the Verals of the North. Nomadic design paint the walls, and columns of ivory and ebonic stone. Red sandstone line the decorative walls of the underground labryinth, and even clear hardened glass that seem to float in the depths of the ocean.   Above ground four towers surround buildings upon buildings within the miles of courtyards. Each tower representing the four Gods of Knowledge.   Intellect, Histories, Words, Glyphagy.   Each with their own dedicated services. The building range from domed expanses to block by block cities, and pyramids of outstanding design.

History

It's history is simple to those that live there but it has expanded into confusion and chaos to the outside world.   In the early days it was those who have met the Keeper built the cathedral as a testament to the collection of the histories of the world. Starting from a few dozen scribes that chanced upon his abode and began to dedicate their lives to collecting the history that was scattered about the many continents. Collecting data and facts and even legends told by mouth. As they travelled they gathered more followers, intellectuals who understood the importance of history and the importance collecting the stories that were passed through the ages. However the constant attacks, and consistent wars that they ended up getting caught in lost them too much knowledge.   In that time their minds rattled and thought, until at last they came to a solution.   The Cathedral Library. A place where all knowledge gathered could be stored. All magics known could be kept. So they went to work. The first building was made of stone.. The first library of many to come, now decrepit and falling it still stands in its ruinous state as a reminder of where the Cathedral began.   In time the other scribes of knoweldge, worshippers of Gods of Intellect, and Glyphagy and of words caught wind of the historical Cathedral and petitioned them to add their stores of collected knowledge and thus the Library of the Keeper became the Cathedral Library to date. Books upon books, Plethora of scrolls, and parchments, and preserved and dedicated tablets of stone, and messages within dreams have been stored and archived within the labryinthal halls.   None dare move against what the outside world considers a city of mages, annd intellect for fear of bringing the wrath of their Gods down upon their heads.
