Tanith, Goddess of Torture & Depravity Character in Terranon | World Anvil

Tanith, Goddess of Torture & Depravity (TAN-ith)

The Mistress of Perversion, Mother of Entropy, The Corruptor

Portfolio

Tanith is the goddess of torture, depravity, perversion, anarchy, and selfishness   Tanith believes that the law is a false construct, that the only rule one should follow is their own darkest desires   Tanith delights in cruelty and misfortune, and actively seeks to harm and corrupt others

Depiction

Tanith is depicted as a curvaceous woman, typically a tiefling or hexblood, with tangled hair, covered in blood and chains. She is often shown with her foot on someone’s back, holding a whip   Tanith is a cruel, wicked, mocking goddess. She loves taunting her enemies and slowly twisting the innocent to her machinations; she is not content to just kill or torture people, but instead wants to watch them fall down the path of wickedness of their own accord, tempting them further and further with forbidden pleasures. She does not, however, often leave her realm, and more often sends her agents out into the world than deign to go herself.

Relationships

Tanith is the sister of Morwen and the mother of Eosphorus   Tanith is pretty well despised by the rest of the pantheon, but she likes it that way. She often schemes to throw wrenches into the work of the other deities just to mess with what they’ve created, especially those gods who hold themselves to morality and kindness, but she does get along fairly well with Steyfano. She is rumored to be mortally terrified of Morwen, for if he ever gets out of his prison, she is the first thing he will seek to destroy.

Symbols

Tanith’s holy symbol is two clawed female hands grasping a skeletal pelvis   Tanith’s colors are gray and crimson   Tanith’s favored weapon is the whip   Among Tanith’s other symbols are chains, torture implements, rope, and wolverines
