Godless & Reptilian Languages

Overview

Humanoid Languages

Orcish

Orcs are known to be able to also speak at least three other languages. This is only possible because the other languages are in fact Dialects of the Original speech (The Speech of Origin). Known in Orcish as Eme Gir. Eme Gir is the main form of Orcish.   This is known as the Godless Language - as no God was needed to achieve anything. The words of the workers achieved wonders all through their own power.   The other dialects of Orcish are of several types, some (but not all) include:

Eme-sal (Fine/Thin tongue)

This is the female gender dialect and only used by Females. It is also the basis for Bugbear - which Orcs secretly find very amusing. However, it is said to come from an Orc Female teaching the Bugbear race how to speak with power.

Eme-galam (Skilful Tongue) (Restricted Language)

The Dialect of skill - this is not taught outside of Orc artisan groups and is said to contain within it the power to melt metal with words, and weave iron with sound. Sages consider this to simply be a form of Orc propaganda.

Eme-Sisa (Spear Straight Tongue)

This is the War Dialect - Weaponspeak - the dialect of Orc Commanders and Warriors used in time of war and in the midst of battle. It is one of the most common dialects known by outsiders due to this war time usage. To an Orc, war is everything from the moment it breaks upon you - so everything from you - including your sound must change to match it. It shows complete commitment to the tasks at hand.

Several of the key Humanoid languages are in fact Eme-Sisa dialect based, taught to the war-partners in a time before other races lost their true voices (started speaking Non-Orc).

Eme usan (Whip Tongue)

This dialect is one also commonly known by Orc-foes - it is the Slave Dialect - used to order slaves about. The use of it in an inappropriate setting is a sure sign of a former slave and an instant cause for loss of honor on the part of the user.

Other Godless Languages

Bugbear

Bugbears speak a language based on the Eme Sar Dialect of Orcish - a female dialect of the language. It was an Orc Shamaness who taught Bugbears to speak 'with power'.

Goblin

Goblins speak a crude form of Eme-Sisa - a fighting form of Orcish that they use for all parts of life not just for war.

Hobgoblin

Hobgoblins speak a similar version of the language of war and this makes the learning of the two somewhat easier.

Ogrish

Ogrish is another derivative language - this time it is derived from Hobgoblin but maintains a similar syntax to Orcish. It is thought that those Ogres who had learned another form of Orcish - became Ogre Magi through the power given to them by the language.

Gnoll

Gnolls speak a form of dog like language that is said to be a form of Goblin and Sylvan tongue mix that went horribly wrong. Gnolls to this day will attack Goblins and intensely dislike them - it is thought that this is an effort on their part to wipe out a horrible stain in their own racial history involving the much weaker Goblin Race.

Reptilian Languages

Draconic

All Dragons speak Draconic, however they dislike using it - preferring to use Common or their own Dragon Dialect unique to their dragon type.

Serpentine (Restricted Language)

The language of snake type creatures is rarely heard - but is said to be spoken by Medusae as well as their own language.

Saurian

A type of Lizard-man tongue that is rumored to form the basis for most reptilian speech in Atlantis.   Kobold (Earthen Derived Humanoid Language) Kobold stands as unique in its presence in both the Godless and the Earthen Derived language trees. It allows for a 20% mutual understanding with the Earthen language.
