Overview

The Four

The Clans of the Four are the most active of the Dwarven Clans. They perform key roles in the Kingdom both overtly and covertly.

Fist Symbolism

The Four took a fist to be their symbol. Every fist normally has four fingers - the Four see themselves as the fingers of the fist that serves the crown (the thumb). Their functions are said to involve the four functions that maintain a Kingdom. The strategic tablet, known as the Athene Steele was the inspiration for the four clans, and the bases for their view of what the Kharazad Kingdom must do to thrive.

The Four Principles of Athenian Dwarves

The direct receipt of a simple rock inscribed with four words (the Steele) from the Goddess has inspired many in the four clans to follow the Goddess in some fashion. This includes cadres of Clerics and Warriors. Many refer to the Four as Athenian Dwarves as a result, and they are met with a mixed reception as a result. Some respect the acknowledgement of the Goddess towards them, and others mistrust them for the same reason.

The Steele has been the basis for their approach to supporting the Throne. Each of the terms has been expanded upon by the Clans.

Expansion

Translated into Dwarven as Hljiffn - Growth. In this case Growth of the Nation through wealth or land. From this the Clan HLJIFFN - the Explorer Clan was formed.

Containment

This translated into Dwarven as Onnon, which means Hold. This is the control of what has been expanded upon. Hold is also a term used for the Fortresses used to protect the Kingdom and the double meaning is preserved from the Dwarven as an excuse to build such buildings where ever possible. From this Clan ONNON - the Holdmaster Clan was formed.

Betterment

This is translated into Dwarven as Arboth (Better). It is seen as the improvement of the lives of those within the Kingdom. From this Clan ARBOTH - the Improver Clan was formed.

Enforcement

This is translated into Dwarven as Gevorgun (Guard) - it is ensuring those within the kingdom work to maintain it's growth. From this Clan GEVORGUN the Watcher Clan was formed.

The Four clans each seek to help in these four functions, but to differing levels depending on the Clan involved.

Special Functions

The Te-Jara are clans who have selected to undertake lives that involve lots of service to the Dwarven Nation. However, the Four were from below the mountains - formed in Caves, and as such some in their number have kept to the ways of the dark. Dwarves of Stealth and Solitude also arose from the Four, and found their way into the Dwarven Secret Service known as the Hidden.   Sub-Clan Names Each of the clans has over time developed their own specialties, and sub-branches.

Naming Traditions

Family names

The Four seek to use Gemstone names as the basis for their family names. Normally the darker the stone, the more the family is associated with Rogue, Assassination, and Spying for the Kharazad.
