Escapologist

Overview

THIS COSTS 2 SKILLED TASK SLOTS.
SPECIAL NOTE: A Thief who takes Escape Bonds as a skill will have two skill role checks that can be made. The idea is that this skill is a lower level of escaping techniques - but a variety that is none the less effective. The Escape Bonds check of the Rogue uses more advanced methods - such as hidden lock picks or having flexed the muscles at just the right moment when being tied so that the ties are loosened just enough when relaxed to achieve the same result.
The escapologist is able to escape from bonds or shackles given enough time. It should be noted that the escapologist must take this skill for each 'type' of restraint. The types of restraint covered include:
  • Shackles and Manacles
  • Stocks/Cangue and Mobile Stocks
  • Ropes and cords
  • Cloth Garment/Straight Jacket Style
So as an example, AJ Ironballs takes Shackles and Manacles Escapologist - this allows him to try to escape that type of restraint. It may include some form of joint dislocation to do this -  a more 'brutal' form of escaping, if it does not work - then as a Thief he may try to use the more refined Escape Bonds skill on the same restraint.

Mechanics

The character in doing a skill check based on Dexterity at -5 has a chance to slip the restraints.
The following other skills modify this skill check further.

A Locksmith has a +1 skill check modifier against lock based restraints

A Rope-Use skilled character has a +1 skill check modifier against rope based restraints.

A Rogue or Assassin has a +2 skill check (given their professional affinity with locks)

In addition if the character has other skills that include similar feats in their description, than another skill check against that particular skill is permitted.
