Janah Eshar

Janah Eshar, or the "Flight of Thirteen" is the faith and history of the Dragon Prophets. Worshipped by the Arkoshian Ulha, Janah Eshar primarily a collection of stories retold from the Age of Titans ( alternatively known as the ‘Hatching Times’). Those that follow the tenants of the Flight are considered be ‘Arkoshian’, which can often cause confusion with foreigners who associate Arkoshia with the dragonborn people. In fact, anyone who becomes a believer of the Eshar can be said to be Arkoshian, though not necessarily claiming ancestry from the territory of Arkoshia.

Pantheon

The pantheon refers to thirteen sacred dragons that were said to have attempted to guide the Esorian Echinder away from a destiny of destruction and greed. The Arkoshians, as they claim, are those who consider themselves the descendants of those prophets, and who sought to follow their beliefs. The stories of the flight of thirteen entail the events and histories during several eras during the age of titans pre- and post-sundering, and contain the allegories and tales of the prophets' observations and revelations as recorded by the ancient Arkoshian disciples.   The Flight of Thirteen are considered to be the divine servants of the true gods, whose names are lost or were never known. According to the parables, the will of the gods is unknowable directly, nor are their forms. As such, only those creatures born directly of them (i.e. the dragons) offer the best wisdom on [our] origin and nature.   Depending on the region, followers may also refer to the pantheon as the “Prismatic Flight”, or “Gods Wings”

Summary of the Flight

Io - Prophet of Destiny

(domain: light)   Io, the first prophet, is the counselor of light. Little is truly known about Io directly, most of his teachings come from his first son, Bah-muat. It is said that Io’s death at the hand of the Vilnach inspired Baah-muat to question his destiny as a mere engine of destruction. Most of Io’s beliefs and teachings come from the Dawn Commandments.

Baah-Muat - Prophet of Heroism

(domain: war)   Baah-muat, the second prophet, is the counselor of justice, courage, and heroism. Bah-muat is the most well known of the dragon prophets, and is widely regarded as the first dragon to fight against his brothers for the sake of their destiny.

Majere - Prophet of Faith

(domain: knowledge)   Majere, the third prophet, is the counselor of wisdom, thought, and the mind. It was the Majere who was the first to join with Bah-muat, and give credence to the idea of the new path of dragonkind.

Ti’Maat - Prophet of Lies

(domain: trickery)   Ti’maat, the fourth prophet, is one of the 'Trine', or 'Apocryphal Three'. The trine are considered to be technically prophets and in possession of divine wisdom, but who’s intentions are questionable at best. Ti’Maat, the first of the Trine, speaks of the knowledge of lies and deceit, and how the use of such can be used for power and self preservation. Ti'maats writings are often scrutinized by scholars; whether Ti’Maat was a warning to the true way, or an insidious actor bent on destroying the Arkoshian faith.

Mishakal - Prophet of Healing

(domain: life)   Mishakal, the fifth prophet, is the counselor of healing, birth, and renewal. Mishakal is sometimes known as the mother of dragonkin, and is said to be the progenitor of the dragonborn. Arkoshian wisdom regarding nurturing the young and growing the clutch are the foundation of Arkoshian families.

Habakkuk - Prophet of the Sea

(domain: tempest)   Habakkuk, the sixth prophet, is the counselor of the land and sea. Sometimes known as the Skylord, Habakkuk’s teachings are small, among the flight. Primarily, Habakkuk is said to have helped guide the first dragonborn to their ancestral home, and to teach them how to treat the land well in order to reap the rewards, and how to protect themselves against the harshness of nature.

Solin - Prophet of Magic

(domain: arcane)   Solin, the seventh prophet, is the counselor of magic. While Solin was considered a creature of immeasurable magical potentially, most of his teachings revolve around prohibitions and warnings against the uses of magic.

Gilean - Prophet of Peace

(domain: nature)   Gilean, the eighth prophet, is the counselor of nature, animals, and the wild. By her nature, Gilean is concerned with the preservation of peace. In this particular case, peace refers to a natural state of harmony, as opposed to a lack of harm. Gilean, instead, speaks of the horrors of war and the destruction such acts take upon the land.

Takkis - Prophet of Fear

(domain: darkness)   Takkis, the ninth prophet, and the second of the Trine, is the prophet of fear. Takkis's teachings speak to the nature of fear, and how it affects mortals. To some degree, Takkis also speaks to how fear can be used against those who let themselves succumb to it, and Takkis holds little value for those who cannot protect themselves against the aspect of fear. Like Ti’maat, his teachings are questioned regarding their true purpose.

Reorx - Prophet of Iron

(domain: forge)   Reorx, the tenth prophet, is the counselor of stone and steel. Reorx, known for his white hot flame, helped to provide practical knowledge on aspects of craftsmanship and labor. While much of the wisdom regarding ancient building is now defunct, the work ethic instilled by Reorx still is regarded as a primal aspect of Arkoshian life.

Shinare - Prophet of Gold

(domain:civilization)   Shinare, the eleventh prophet, is the counselor of coin and commerce. Sometimes misconstrued as a source of prejudice against perceived ‘Arkoshian greed’, Shinare’s teachings speak of the importance of commerce, trade, and righteous self-interest. Many Arkoshians consider Shinare’s wisdom foundational to the formation of the first dragonborn cities.

Kadesh - Prophet of Grief

(domain: grave)   Kadesh, the twelfth prophet, is the counselor of the dead. Her wisdom discusses the purpose of death, and wisdom regarding the afterlife and the cycle of spiritual rebirth. Kadesh’s words can often be heard during Arkoshian eulogies.

Iothas - Prophet of Doom

(domain: death)   Iothas, the thirteenth and last prophet, last of the Trine, and prophet of Doom. Most Arkoshians are unaware of more than a handful of lines from the maddening texts of Iothas, as written by the nameless scribes. What is known is that the teachings of Iothas speak about an eventual end to all life - to the meaninglessness of existence, and the infinite expanse of the universe. Named after the fallen first prophet, Io, Iothas’s teachings are considered to be the divine ramblings of a dragon who had succumbed to madness. While the full writings are not studied by most Arkoshians as a daily matter, select scholars cautiously comb his texts for a glimpse of insight - suspecting that Iothas may have inadvertently revealed a divine truth of the world.
