Session 6

General Summary

Overview:

Looking for answers on how to stop Gorm, the party set sail for the Region of Morah. Along the way, they stopped at a fishing platform to stock up on supplies and noticed that all the fishermen were infected with a strange red moss. Wanting to help, the party teamed up with a selkie named Roselia to prevent the moss—known as Hespori moss—from spreading even more.

Notable Things That Happened:

  • Before leaving for Morah, the party attended a council meeting as the Jarls of Luxen. At this meeting, they agreed to allow Anne Bonney to expand her port into the town of Luxen.
  • Before departing for Morah, the party was also attacked by Gorm. During the scuffle, Lenny rang his bellowing bell, which was heard by Sir Arthur Mernick. With his help, the party managed to subdue Gorm.
  • The party set sail for the city of Ta Lin, located in northern Morah, aboard Captain Anne Bonney's ship. Sir Arthur Mernick and Hula Balu were also on the ship.
  • The party stopped at a fishing platform to stock up on supplies but noticed that all the fishermen were acting strangely. After some investigation, they discovered that the fishermen had been infected by a kind of red moss. Lenny also found a single uninfected chef barricaded in the platform’s kitchen. The chef informed Lenny that the moss was weak against fire and asked the party to help his friends.
  • Wanting to help the fishermen, the party consulted with a selkie friend of Hula Balu's named Roselia. Roselia informed the party that the moss was an ocean fungus known as Hespori, which selkies typically prevented from spreading to the surface. However, this strain of the Hespori root was sprouting in a haunted area that selkies were too afraid to enter.
  • The party asked Roselia to take them to the root of the Hespori. With Hula Balu casting the water-breathing spell, the party followed Roselia to the ocean floor.
  • At the ocean floor, Roselia led the party to a rundown church at the center of an abandoned city. According to Roselia, the root of the Hespori was somewhere within the church.
  • The party entered the church and found it dark and dilapidated. The main room contained a large statue of Deora in the center, a large closed door with a round key socket, and hallways leading to the left and right.
  • After praying to the statue of Deora, the party began to feel a vibration and entered a shared meditative state. They felt the warmth of life and heard whispers of a motherly voice calling them "my children." Assuming the voice was Deora, the party tried to communicate. Lenny asked about the Fathomless Beast, and Deora replied, “My old friend, I’m sorry for what I did to you.” Althea asked what Deora wanted, and she replied, “*something muffled* free me.” The vision then faded, and the party awoke.
  • The party explored the hallway to the left and heard the faint sound of music echoing through it. At the end of the hall, they found themselves in a classroom with two sirens. One of the sirens had mutated into a large blob with a mouth across its belly and was singing songs to charm the party. After a tough fight, the party defeated the sirens and found half a medallion in the mutated one’s mouth.
  • Next, the party explored the right hallway and found an office with a balancing scale. The scale had rocks of various sizes on it and was currently unbalanced. The party attempted to balance the scale, but when they placed the incorrect weight distribution, a volley of arrows burst from the walls, hitting them. Lenny then discovered a hidden chest behind a painting, which Lorvoril opened. The chest contained loot and a note that read, “The key to balance is nothing.” The party then removed all the rocks from the scale, which opened a secret compartment containing the second half of the medallion.
  • After putting the medallion halves together and inserting it into the sealed door, the door opened, revealing a new room. This room was large and circular, with an elevated stone chair lining the walls. In the center of the room was a large root with limbs, thorns, and an armor of seaweed. Three flower pods sat in the room, connected to the root by trails of red moss.
  • Lorvoril destroyed one of the flower pods, and the Hespori root awoke. It began attacking the party with powerful acid blasts and seemed to have extremely strong defenses. However, the party quickly figured out that destroying the flower pods weakened the Hespori root’s defenses, allowing them to contest the root’s strength. After a long battle, Althea landed a mighty critical strike, defeating the Hespori once and for all.
  • With the Hespori defeated, the red moss immediately started turning gray and died.
  • The party explored the council room where they had fought the Hespori and found two key artifacts: a rosetta stone that could seemingly translate the Fathomless Beast's language and a stone tablet with an image inscribed on it. The tablet was broken in half, so only part of the image was visible. What they could see was a crudely drawn image of two girls, one with the name "Deora" beneath it and the other with the name "Zariel." The title read, “Sisters of --,” before being cut off. All the words on the tablet were written in Celestial.
  • Before leaving the ocean floor, the party explored the abandoned city and discovered that the ground was blood-red, just like the ground after a sacrificial eclipse occurs. Roselia also told the party that the city was rumored to have once belonged to the surface world, but it had fallen into the ocean hundreds of years ago.
  • To end the session, the party returned to the fishing platform and found all the fishermen healthy and celebrating with Anne Bonney's crew. Lenny also asked Roselia if she knew anything about the Fathomless Beast, to which she replied that she didn’t. However, she did know of a selkie monk who was knowledgeable about it. She offered to take the party to him on the way to Ta Lin.
