Escamoria (Ess - Car - More - ia)

Escamoria is a naturally occuring material only found in Var Nexa, so is consequently rare outside of it.   Amber-Red in colour, this material readily conducts heat. This is often seen through it being given a set shape - through heating and cooling - which, once further heat is applied, can return to its previous shape. Through precise heat manipulation, the shape can be altered and warped to extremes, but due to the metal's nature - this being layers of thin fibres - this is highly flexible and will not break.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Due to its nature, Escamoria can be found in many forms with no set shape in nature. However, technically each "chunk" of Escamoria is made up of thin wires of the material. Therefore it can usually be identified by the frayed ends often seen on parts exposed to the elements. The material can appear to flicker, even if not moving and under consistent light.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Escamoria is extremly susectible to heat, even by the standards of most metals, with its form altering at even seemingly minute changes. By extension, it will not be broken down or ignited by heat easily. Generally warm to the touch - however this will be in comparison to the air around it, as the metal constantly absorbs heat from the environment. They're fairly resistable to most corrosive materials individually - however being made up of individual wires, liquids can seep through between the fibres.

Compounds

While Escamoria can be mixed with other metals to make alloys, these are typically seperate and lack the signature properties associated with Escamoria. Subsequently, outside of experimental attempts, they typically aren't used to make new materials as this would be a waste of a rather limited resource.

Geology & Geography

Located exclusivly within Var Nexa in its natural state, Escamoria is often found in pools of amber-red water in the hills of Var Nexa closest to the Terminus's entrance (slightly above equatorial level). It is believed that either being bathed in this water is what gives Escamoria its colour, or vice versa.

History & Usage

History

Escamoria is a relatively new discovery, only being brought to the Outer Plateaus within the last 20 years. However, some evidence found in dated historical documents suggests small amounts may have been retrieved previously.   Regardless, even what has been found is relatively small and expensive, quite literally being worth more than it's weight in gold. Subsequently, what has been found has had relatviely few experiments performed on it. The largest stock currently known is kept at Terminus High University, in some of its most secure vaults, being used by researchers there to define its exact properties and uses. Current research is supposedly looking to be highly beneficial, though exact details have yet to be released to the public.

Manufacturing & Products

Humanity has yet to find out how to reproduce Escamoria, though recent thoughts suggest it may be a naturally occuring alloy.

Distribution

Trade & Market

The most likely place to find Escamoria in trade is [The Seeker's Market], though small amounts are sometimes traded among others. However, at the Seeker's Market you are more likely to find expeditions recruiting Seeker Teams to search for and obtain Escamoria, rather than the material itself.

Storage

Escamoria can be kept in most conditions, however it is advised to keep it in a location with consistent temperatures as other wise it will passively absorb heat and deform - requiring it to be reset for future use.
