The Rampart

The Rampart is the name given to the castle of Torsgard. It actually is a long wall that cuts the valley of Hornsegl in two. At its center, in Torsgard, it includes a heavy building that serves as baraquements, official Castle of the village, and residence of the Baron and its family.
The Rampart is also known as "The Edge of the World", because it is at the limit of the civilised world. No one actually knows what lays beyond this wall, except The Wild Unkown. It is said to be filled with ferocious monsters able to kill a man in a second of inattention. It is said that magic is so chaotic that it is impossible to cast a spell. Worst of all, it is the land where Fays comes from.

Purpose / Function

The purpose of the Rampart is simple : Keep the Wild Unknown out of civilisation. That includes Monsters, Fays, but also raw, untamed magic.

Alterations

On the side of the wild, little to no alteration have been made. It is mostly maintained as it was built. On the side of Torsgard, the main building have been opened with some windows and a larger entrance door, and several workshops have been built in alcoves around the place of the village.

Architecture

The rampart is ancient and functional, and so is its architecture. it is made of solid rocks, coming from far away in the kingdom. The rampart is a three storey high wall, with a four storey high building at its center and several towers at regular spaces. On the "wild side" of the rampart, the walls are perfectly verticals and smooth, making it almost impossible to climb. Half of the towers pokes out of the wall, like spear points. The ground has been dug down into a moat. Finally, only a few meters beyond the moat, a line of tall pillars stands, as high as the wall. the pillars are placed roughly fifteen meters apart from each others and are made of blue marble that repulse Magic Energy, thus creating a barrier against magicals attacks.
There is a single, heavily guarded door that leads outside through an undergound gallery that can be collapsed in case of emergency.

History

The construction of the rampart begun at the very first year of the Light Age. I took ten years to build and have been maintained ever since. It is said that the rampart never had a night without a guard.
Malin's grand father was the first to dare alter the rampart. He's the one who orderedf the construction of the windows and the alcoves for the workshops.
