Torsgard

Known as "The last place before the Unknown", or "The edge of the world". If The Capitol were the sun of the civilised world, Torsgard would be Pluto. People use its name for only two things : scary fairytales and jokes.
When one is very late to a rendez-vous, they're usually greeted by a "Where were you ? Torsgard ?" or a "Did you make a stop at Torsgard or what ?".
In reality, Torsgard is a medium sized village with a long Castle at the end of the village. People there are very friendly. They don't have much flat land to grow cereals, but they have cows and goats in the mountains and lots of vegetables. Both are of good quality and highly valued in trade. They also have plenty of wood. People there are good crafters of wood, leather and wool. With all those ressources, Torsgard manage to have a good place in trading, despite being at the end of the road. It would most surely be a great city, if it weren't so close to The Edge. Beside itinerant merchant, almost no one dares to go to Torsgard.   The village is made of a group of houses approximatively organised around a circular place. Half of the place is taken by The Castle, which looks like a huge rampart with a big central tower and several smaller towers on each side. The central part is the house of the Baron and their family. all along the wall are several workshops (wood, leather, wool, metal), each one has a counter facing the circular place, so people can go and buy/order things. At the center of the place, a huge ornemental fountain stands, surrounded by some cleaning equipment so people can come and clean their clothes.
At the outskirt of the town, the fields and vegetable gardens surrounds the road. The rest of the village is surrounded by forests.   Its magical culture is pretty bare. Almost everyone in the village has basic ability but no one is educated in that, except the Priest who knows some healing tricks.
Torsgard villagers are actually very strong wizard, but with no control nor education it only led to accidents in the past, so now using magic is frown upon.

Demographics

1 family of nobles, 1 garnison of soldiers, evryone else is either a peasant, an artisan, or the priest. Ages range from 0 to 70.

Government

The village is run by Malin Ludvigsen, the Baronness, appointed by the Capitol. People come to them when they need help or to settle a disagreement. The Baron can be strict, but they're just and kind. The people of Torsgard have them in high esteem.

Defences

Torsgard is a frontier village with a solid Castle. But the castle works as a rampart against the wild, and it has never been attacked as long as History goes, so there is very few soldiers and they work only 2 days a week as soldier, taking turn to guard the rampart and train.
The walls of the castle cut the valley in half, but only a few part has habitable towers. There is a gate, but it is only opened on demand by authorized people (mostly hunters and lumberjacks), and it stays closed at night.

Industry & Trade

Torsgard is famous for its beef and leatherwork, it is also quite good at wool and wood crafts. Those are its major export. It imports metals, linens, some medications that can't be found in the forest, and cereals. They are not used to artefacts so they don't import it.

Infrastructure

The whole village is organised around a cobbled place in front of the Rampart. There are a few workshop, a church also used as a school and a small library in the castle. At the center of the village, there is a natural source of water that have been arranged as a fountain.
The water goes first in a high bassin for everyday used, then it goes through laundry bassins. It then runs through the village as open sewer conducts before going leaving toward a river nearby. This sewage system is one of the pride of Torsgard, making it one of the cleanest village around.

Assets

The baron, and thus the village, possess four horses, some farming tools, several workshop with a lot of equipment. everything can be used by everyone, and people can ask the baron to buy new equipment to benefit the village. They usually find a way to acquire it.

Guilds and Factions

The Baron follows the orders of the Capitol, but they're mostly free.

History

The Rampart is older than any one can remember, some says it's from the previous era. The temple seems to date from the same period. Historically, Torsgard is nothing more than a defense point. But after dozens of years without even the sign of a threat, the soldiers asked to be removed. For unknown reasons, the politician never agreed to it. To keep the soldiers from revolting, they turned Torsgard into a Baronny. They brought the families of the soldiers, then assigned a Baron to take care of it all. That's how Torsgard became the farthest village on the map.
The village grew as new soldiers came and old one stayed, it became a place known for its wool, leather and furr.   Around a hundred years ago, the Baron in title decided to shift the politics of Torsgard. After several centuries without any attack, he thought that it was stupid to keep that many people on the rampart all the time. The Capitol was still very firm about the need of this defence, but the Capitol was far away and the soldiers were dying of boredom. So he decided to use them as workforce to make the village better. Since then, the soldiers of Torsgard spend 2 days a week on the rampart and keep training every morning, but the rest of their time is spent improving the village. They made the foutain at the center, with the sewage system. Then they created every workshop accessible to every one, and they made an annexe to the church where childrens and adults alike can come and learn with the priest. When soldiers aren't working on a project, they are often sollicited by the villagers to help on various task.
The current Baron keeps this up, the village is now thriving with life. Its main activity has shifted from growing vegetables and raising cattle to original crafts of wood, leather and wool. It is one the happiest village in the kingdom, but they are warry of outsiders, because everyone knows this goes against the demands of the Capitol.
