Lubec

Lubec is the name of a region in Crestfall, located on the mid-Western side of the continent. Historically, the region of Lubec is known as the homeland of the gnomes; in the Modern Era, Lubec is one of the territories under the control of the Hegian Empire.

Geography and Landmarks

Lubec is a lush, idyllic region populated by grassy fields, pastoral meadows and tall, dense forests; with such natural wonders populating the Lubecian landscape, it is perhaps no wonder that the native Lubecian gnomes treat the natural world with such veneration.   The largest forest in Lubec is the Lavender Wilds, named for the violet flowers which bloom in the forest throughout the summer months. The Lavender Wilds are famously difficult to navigate, leading some to believe that the forest is permeated by some form of beguiling magic. Some arcane scholars have even speculated that the Wilds may in fact contain a passageway into another world entirely.

Demographics and Cultures

Lubec is the ancestral home of the gnomes; while gnomes have spread to different parts of the continent as well over several generations, even those gnomes not born in Lubec are taught the cultural and spiritual significance of their ancestors' homeland. Lubecian gnomes, sometimes called "forest gnomes" by outsiders, commonly practice the religion of Lubeci, an animist faith that reveres and honors various spirits representing aspects of the natural world.   Lubec is also home to the wood elves, descendants of the elves which refused to take a side during the Millennium War and instead elected to return to a more natural lifestyle. As their name implies, the wood elves tend to dwell deep within Lubec's many forests and wooded areas, and as such are seldom seen by outsiders.   As of 920 ME, Lubec was officially annexed as a territory of the Hegian Empire, resulting in a greater population of humans of Hegian descent within the region. The native Lubecian gnomes have held a longstanding disdain for the Hegian occupation of their homeland, which reached a fever pitch in 965 ME when tensions eventually gave way to an all-out civil war. Ultimately, the revolting Lubecian gnomes were unsuccessful in repelling the Hegian Empire and were defeated, and as of 999 ME, Lubec remains a part of the Empire to this day.
