Bugbear

Bugbears are one of the three goblinoid races, alongside goblins and hobgoblins. They can be found throughout the continent of Crestfall, but most commonly reside within the Southern jungle region of Gulgund.

Appearance

Bugbears are the tallest and most heavy-set of the goblinoid races, standing at an average of 6-8 feet tall and weighing between 250 and 350 pounds. Bugbears are frequently long-limbed and lanky, with elongated arms in proportion to the rest of their bodies.
Another unique trait among the bugbears compared to other goblinoids is their dense body hair, which is considered effective in repelling insect bites in the jungle environments they frequently occupy.

Traits and Abilities

The bugbears are the most physically powerful of the goblinoids, able to perform feats of great strength due to their powerful builds and long, muscled limbs. Despite their large frames, however, the bugbears are also surprisingly nimble, moving with a grace and deftness that is often on par with their smaller goblin cousins.

Civilization and Culture

History

Bugbears are believed to have first arrived in Crestfall sometime near the end of the Age of Giants, arriving to the continent via a land-bridge from the Southern continent of Aiyun alongside the other goblinoid races.
Like other goblinoids, the bugbears were originally considered a part of a rigid caste system; in the bugbears' case, they resided directly in the middle, belonging to a higher caste than the diminutive goblins but still beneath the hobgoblin ruling caste. Because of their powerful physiques, the bugbears were favored by the hobgoblins as laborers, and were responsible for the physical construction of many of the ancient stone buildings and monuments that can still be seen throughout Gulgund to this day.
In the Modern Era, the dissolution of the ancient caste system has allowed the bugbears a greater degree of freedom to choose their place in society; while some turn to lives of violence and banditry, many bugbears choose to pursue paths of altruism and collaboration with the other races of Crestfall.
While the majority of Crestfall's bugbear population resides within Gulgund, bugbears can be found throughout the continent of Crestfall, often favoring urban environments such as towns and cities. In some locations, such as Drakmort, bugbears are often viewed as lower-class citizens, being forced into the fringes of society. In other places, such as the subterranean city of Deepscar, bugbears are viewed in a more favorable light.
