Void Storm
The Endless Void Unleashed
Void Storms are a rare and dangerous phenomenon that occurs when a breach between the Astral Plane and the Material Plane allows the potential of the Endless Void to seep into the Material Plane. The Endless Void has no inherent identity, but it can be shaped by the subconscious thoughts and beliefs of mortals. When it leaks into the Material Plane through a Void Storm, it can cause chaos and destruction, as well as create various manifestations based on the collective fears and beliefs of nearby beings.
Void Storms have the appearance of a churning, eerie mist that reacts to the presence of living, sentient beings. Exposure to a Void Storm can be harmful and transformative, leading to a unique type of Planar Corruption called Wild Planar Corruption. This form of corruption is not associated with any specific metaplane and can result in unpredictable changes. Some stable mutations resulting from Wild Planar Corruption, such as Harpies, have been able to breed true.
Interestingly, Void Storms tend to be more frequent and powerful in areas away from settlements. Even when a Void Storm occurs near a settlement, its effects and any void creatures born within the storm rarely, if ever, enter buildings. There is ongoing debate among scholars as to why this occurs, but the most commonly accepted theory is that the collective subconscious feeling of ownership and safety within one's home or buildings in general subtly repels the influence of the storm.
Storm Wardens, mages who specialise in detecting and predicting Void Storms, play a crucial role in protecting communities from these dangerous events.
