The Gem Islands lie beyond the northern coast of Theria.
Named quite literally after the amount of gems found here. Each island is named after the primary gem found upon it. In its native tongue, the land is called Houseki, "The Jewels".
Used to be home to warring warlords.
United long ago by one of the warlords under the influence of the (then still mortal) Tamamo-no-Mae.
Ruled by philsopher kings ever since, making the islands a haven of prosperity, peace, and the pursuit of knowledge and the arts.
But then the Empire attacked.
Now ruled by an imperial governor.
The prominence of Kitsune has continued unabated since the foundation of the nation.
Recently, scrutiny in the continuing worship of Tamamo-no-Mae has increased. Imperial sympathisers reject everything traditional about Houseki, adopting Imperial mores and fashions at rapid pace, blaming the local culture for the continuing pull of the divine on the people. A counter-movement at court embraces the old with increasing fervour. How long until the Imperial court recognises this as a provocation and retaliates?
