Xiuhquetzal Geographic Location in Tellus | World Anvil

Xiuhquetzal

Actually formed of three different peaks caused by the upwelling of a massive spring of fresh water below, Xiuhquetzal is unique in that it was not formed volcanically, but hydraulically. The great boon to The Tolmec Empire of old, however, was salt.   The fresh water casuing the peaks in the first place also had to find its way through great and mighty slabs of pink salt deposits prevalent in the area. Combined with the prevalence of clay in the soil, and the salt industry was born. Salt water would be collected in clay vessels, and the water would be simmered off. This would be done again and again until the entire clay pot was filled with a brick of salt. The pot would be broken, and the salt traded. The pots came in many shapes and sizes, and were (prior to queen Cere killing all of the people off) the cause of Xiuhquetzal's wealth and prestige.
