Vekhet Sphere

The vekhet spheres are items from a distant past, purportedly from before the progenitors. Some even say they somehow had a hand in the creation of magic, and even of the gods themselves. No one knows who or what made them, what they are capable of, or where they came from. Their mere existence is known only to very few, and all three of them are professors at the Bardic College of Lore. 
There are stories, though. Stories of huge explosions levelling entire cities, with the only object remaining amidst a newly formed crater being a perfect sphere of the clearest glass.
