Toybox Angler

The depths of the Kukiri Chasm have been romanticized for decades, maybe even centuries, now, in Dwarfish fiction and literature. Interestingly enough, the Toybox Angler is referred to as the most diabolical and evil creature found within the twisting and unstable maze of subsidence chasms and tail-end tunnels.

So, anyhow, Mockey and Donnie triple mole-dared me to touch it. What was I supposed to do? And anyway, like Mockey said, it was just a stuffed animal, right? One for kids? He said if I was scared of a kid's toy, then I might as well be scared of my own beard. So I did it! I mean, you would have, too, right? But sheesh, it stuck right to me! Had a string on the other end of it; started pulling me toward the side of the crevasse! It would have to, smack!, right into the fissure, if Donnie hadn't used his shroom-axe to cut that string. It took all day to get that stuffed toy looking lure off of my hands and arms; I had to wash up in naptha to get all the snot off of me. It was nasty!

-Pawley Doublebeard, Dwarvenholme

The Toybox Angler is a cute and fuzzy monstrosity, with big, adorable eyes and a penchant for crushing people with its hair. It seems to be made up of mostly long, wavy, fur, which is surprisingly prehensile and up to four times stronger than Rilworm silk. It has no arms or legs, propelling itself along with psuedopods formed of the supple body hair.

No one is quite sure where they came from. There are species with similar traits, of course, but there is nothing else on Tellus quite like a murderously cute and fuzzy ball of friendly energy.

The Toybox Angler has a tendril of hair that can unravel up to one hundred and fifty feet. It is very strong, very fine, and ingeniously camoflaged. At the tip of this tendril, is a very special puff of fur. This fur ball gives off a specific set of pheremones that evoke childhood memories of happy times and cherished toys. It makes one feel safe, and secure, and childishly curious. In the victim's eye, the tuft of hair becomes a teddy bear; or a favorite dolly from the beholder's youth. It entices mammals to come and investigate; but it is covered in a sticky mass of mucous that will adhere to its victim. The tuft of hair will then clasp the victim like a hand with many fingers and thumbs, and it will begin to pull the trapped and hapless victim toward the main body. The entrapped creature will be consumed entirely by the Toybox Angler, not even leaving bones or hair behind.

Special Abilities

  • Lure: On it's turn, the Toybox Angler can use a bonus action to issue a puff of pheremones that will entice a mammal to follow the smell, unless they make a DC18 Constitution Saving Throw. This can force creatures into melee range
  • Envelop: The Toybox angler can occupy another creatures space, and when it does, that creature is Enveloped within the Toybox Angler's hair; unless it makes a DC18 Dexterity Saving Throw. An enveloped creature is grappled. The Toybox Angler can envelop up to four creatures at a time
  • Constrict: The Toybox Angler can, on its turn, constrict a grappled creature with its prehensile hair strands
  • Mucosal Strand: The Toybox Angler can, on its turn, shoot a tendril of hair tipped with a gooey and sticky mucous ball up to 40' in any direction. If it hits, the target is grappled, and pulled towards the cute and fluffy ball of fur at 10' per round. Victims can make a DC18 escape attempt as their action on their turn.

A giant puffball of a creature, this soft and fuzzy ball of fur has been described as diabolically cute. The noises and sounds it makes are melodic and endearing, and sound an awful lot like it is reacting to the things one says when close to it. Its large, expressive eyes and snuffly nose are disarmingly friendly seeming, and its mouth seems to be smiling large the closer one gets to it. Its coloration ranges from mottled blonde to a dull black, the better to blend in with its surroundings. They walk with an ambling motion, that is only accentuated by the vast mane of long fur covering its relatively small body.

The wondrous thing about this wonderful creature, however, is what it can do with its hair. Its hair is prehensile enough that it can use it for propulsion in an orientation, and on any surface. Its hair is the first part of the creature's digestive system, crushing and softening prey with it for easier consumption, much like a python would. But, it has a very special set of hair tendrils that make this creature unique amongst its dangerous bretheren.
