THE HIGH KING’S DECREES

By the Unquestionable Authority of the Crown, Let These Laws Be Known and Obeyed  

I. On Loyalty and Order: To speak against the Crown, its laws, or its appointed officials is Treason, punishable by death or permanent exile to the Blackstone Workpits. All subjects must show deference to the King’s Emissaries and Enforcers. Failure to kneel when addressed is punishable by public whipping.

II. On Tribute and Taxation: The King’s Tax shall be paid in full, on time, and without protest. Failure to meet tax burdens results in immediate seizure of property and forced labor. Hoarding of wealth or grain is an act of Greed, punishable by public flogging and asset forfeiture. Any found harboring untaxed goods or coin shall face branding and a sentence in the Iron Hollows.

III. On Crime and Punishment:

  • Theft, regardless of value, is punishable by the loss of a hand and a year’s labor in the pits.
  • Assault upon any citizen without official sanction is met with branding and a decade in servitude.
  • Murder outside the Crown’s command is punished by impalement.
Any found guilty of three offenses, no matter the nature, shall be deemed Irredeemable and given over to the King’s Custodians for eternal service.

IV. On Speech and Thought: Spreading falsehoods, heresies, or seditious rumors is a grave offense. Informers shall be rewarded. The printing or possession of unapproved texts is punishable by the pyre. All songs and plays must first be approved by the Ministry of Public Order.

V. On Travel and Conduct: No subject may leave their town or district without writs of passage. Foreigners and vagrants without work papers shall be arrested and sent to serve in the King’s Quarries. Public assemblies of more than five persons require the presence of a Watcher of the Crown. Unauthorized gatherings shall be dispersed with lethal force.

VI. On the Dead and the Forbidden: The bodies of criminals and the indigent are the rightful property of the Crown and shall be surrendered without protest. No citizen shall interfere with the affairs of the King’s Custodians or the Keepers of the Silent Order. Any who seek to profane the sacred mysteries of the Crown’s Will shall be Unmade in the Black Cells.

By the grace of His Eternal Majesty, these laws ensure order and prosperity. Obey, and you shall endure. Resist, and you shall serve.
