Book IV | Chapter I | The Magistrate Report
General Summary
On the 16th of Raindraw, the party continued right where they left off from Book IV, Chapter I, Bargains in Beacon. At the start of the session, the party was split into three main groups:
Silas, Tourmaline, Verst, and Rowan, having just been kicked off of the Train by the Beacon City Watch stationed outside of the entrance to the Underyard, made their way through the Scugs toward one of the main roads of the city. Along the way, all four were pickpocketed while weaving through the Beacon Tenements in the Scugs. Verst caught the pickpocket going after his loot, but allowed him to abscond with one of his treasured pieces of lint. As the four traveled through the Scugs and the Climbing Ward, they caught glimpses of various herds of animals being brought to the outskirts of Beacon for sale and/or slaughter. They also traveled beneath the construction of the Beacon Skyship Dock, but were unable to find much more information about its purpose.
Meanwhile, Cass, Cards , Ecci, and Morning arrived at the Hilltop Hall of Justice and met with Samson Arwyle, the high Magistrate of Beacon. Through their conversation they learned that the conflict with the Valley Partisans in the Lower Valley has caused some manpower and financial supply to be shifted away from the Beacon judiciary, leaving Samson Arwyle with a only a handful of guards and deputies. To make matters worse, The Fat Man's desperation has lead many of Arwyle's usual informants to either abandon their positions, or has lead to their deaths. Arwyle himself has been the target of numerous assassination attempts since his home was broken into, forcing him to set up temporary residence in the Hall of Justice. Samson Arwyle offered to deputize the party (off the record) for the task of investigating, and apprehending, The Fat Man. The party accepted his offer, and before they left, Samson Arwyle gave Cards a Hat of Disguise, allowing Cards to magically disguise himself in Beacon.
Simultaneously, Oliver Revilo and Imgu Lible retrieved the party's mounts from the Train attendants at one of the Lifts and gathered some herbs from one of the public green spaces in the Hilltop Ward.
Eventually, the party all reconvened outside of the Hilltop Hall of Justice and grabbed a midday meal at a café within Founder's Peak. During their meal, Cards created a map of Beacon identifying some locations that The Fat Man had interests in. The party resolved to split into small groups to investigate these various locations throughout the city in the hopes of tracking down where The Fat Man had gone into hiding.
Additionally, Cass telepathically eavesdropped in on the various conversations happening around the café, and managed to gleam the following information:
At the end of the session, Verst shared with Cass that ever since the fight with the Blight Maker beneath the ruins of Hellford, he had been experiencing memories of another area that contained a crossing into the "mushroom place." He told Cass that he needed to go find this place, and that he would need to go there alone. Cass told him that she believed he was ready, but did one last review of his notebook to make sure he knew which plants to eat, and which to avoid.

- The Beacon Skyship Dock is being constructed by the Tengari Consortium, which is owned by the Psamektia Family, relative newcomers to Chapel Valley Province.
- Many of the Iron Barons have been seen returning to Beacon, and rumor among the servants of the various Baron households is that some kind of meeting is taking place.
