Stirgan Greathound

Huge, fluffy dogs raised in the mountains of southwestern Stirge. They sport moderately water-resistant fur, making them buoyant, along with webbed toes, making them excellent swimmers. Large enough to be mistaken for bears at a fairly short distance. Incredibly loyal, frequently bonding with large groups of people at a time; namely ships' crews. Come in a variety of colors, but black, gray, and brown (and various combinations thereof) are the most common colorations. Excellent fishing and hunting companions, but especially prized as lifeguards, especially on Navy vessels. Due to their natural aquatic skills, they are capable of aiding the less-swimming-inclined back to ships or back to shore when necessary.

A popular sub-breed are the Krovhound, named for their blood-red coloration. These tend to be slightly more aggressive, bred for battle rather than companionship, but they can be just as friendly and loyal as their more common cousins.
