Morgesh, the Mad God

“The world? It’s nothing but lies. All that is built is a cage. Strip away reason. Tear apart civilization. In the end, all that remains is the truth—chaos.”
— Maze, Chosen of Morgesh
Morgesh, the Mad God, represents the destructive force of pure chaos. For ages, both mortals and gods only felt his presence through the creeping corruption that twisted the Dream, warping reality itself. Hidden in shadow, Morgesh's true form remained unknown until the buildup to the Divine War, when he finally revealed himself as the embodiment of dissolution and madness.   Appearing as a frail, decrepit figure, Morgesh’s twisted frame stands gaunt and skeletal, draped in tattered robes that were once symbols of grandeur. His wild white hair tumbles in chaotic strands, and his eyes burn with a terrifying light, betraying the madness within. Where Morgesh treads, reality bends, as though recoiling from his presence, and the air grows thick with a suffocating sense of madness.

The Fall into Madness

The origins of Morgesh are cloaked in mystery. An outsider among the gods, his motives have always been incomprehensible. Where others sought power or dominion, Morgesh desired only the unraveling of all things—a force driven by the urge to dismantle the very structures of creation. His whispers spread madness long before the Divine War, twisting the minds of mortals and driving them to acts of unimaginable destruction.   Morgesh’s influence seeped into the cracks of society, a slow breakdown of reason as order crumbled into chaos. He stirred the dark forces that would eventually spark the Divine War, though even the gods themselves struggled to grasp the full scope of his madness.

Ruin Unleashed

During the Divine War, Morgesh unleashed his most terrifying creations—the orcs. Towering hulks of muscle and rage, these creatures were once mortal, but Morgesh’s madness had twisted them beyond recognition. Their burning eyes reflected the same chaotic hunger as their creator. Where the orcs marched, nothing was left standing. Their rampage tore through Tavomia, reducing villages to rubble and slaughtering anything in their path.   In the chaos, Morgesh stood above his orcish hordes, a figure of pure madness. Humans, twisted and broken, writhed on chains that stretched from his hands, their minds shattered by the weight of his madness. To face Morgesh in battle was to confront an unrelenting storm of chaos, as reality itself warped beneath his influence, leaving only destruction in his wake.

The Abyss: Morgesh's Prison

As the Divine War reached its devastating peak, Seraphine, foreseeing the destruction of her Dream, took drastic measures to prevent Tavomia from unraveling. With the aid of the remaining Watchers, she made the ultimate sacrifice: the Watchers gave their lives to create powerful seals, tearing war-torn lands from Tavomia and forming isolated realms—prison realms to contain the corrupted gods. Morgesh, along with Dashiva, Lul’nir, and Sune, was imprisoned in these realms, separated from the Dream. His prison, the Abyss, is a realm of eternal madness and despair, reflecting his chaotic essence.   Within the Abyss, time has no meaning, and Morgesh’s rage echoes endlessly, his whispers seeping through the cracks in reality. Though bound, his influence remains, creeping into the minds of the broken, driving them to madness and destruction. The Cult of the Damned tirelessly seeks his release, believing that his return will unleash true chaos and an end to all things.

The Cult of the Damned

"We worship not order, but the beautiful destruction that lies beyond it."
— Maze, Chosen of Morgesh
The Cult of the Damned is a disorganized yet deadly group of followers who have embraced Morgesh’s madness. They believe that through the destruction of civilization and the spread of chaos, they will achieve true freedom. These cultists operate in small cells throughout Tavomia, spreading terror and madness wherever they go.   Led by Maze, the cult is as much a force of chaos as their god. Maze, in his eerie calmness, is feared even among his own for his cold, calculating mind. While most of Morgesh’s followers lose themselves to madness, Maze stands above them—fully in control, directing the cult’s every chaotic action. The cult’s gatherings are marked by grotesque rituals and acts of violence, where the line between sanity and madness blurs. Entire villages have been driven to ruin by Morgesh’s whispers alone.

Twisting Madness

Those who draw upon Morgesh’s power experience a condition known as Twisting Madness, a curse that warps both mind and body. The deeper a follower delves into Morgesh’s chaotic energies, the more pronounced the effects become. Their bodies twist and contort, with bulging eyes, pale skin, and erratic movements becoming common signs of those who serve the Mad God. As their minds break, they begin to blend lucid thoughts with deranged ramblings.   Ultimately, these followers lose themselves entirely, becoming mindless vessels of destruction, driven solely by Morgesh’s hunger for chaos.

Rituals of Madness and Destruction

Morgesh’s followers do not build grand temples. Instead, they perform their dark rites in the shadows—abandoned ruins, forgotten battlefields, and places of intense suffering. These rituals are chaotic and violent, marked by acts of grotesque cruelty and sacrifice. Each rite is designed to further Morgesh’s influence, spreading madness and destruction across Tavomia. The cultists revel in the chaos they bring, believing that with every act of violence, they draw Morgesh closer to freedom.

Agents of Chaos

Morgesh’s agents—warlocks who speak in riddles and clerics whose prayers unravel sanity—are among the most dangerous foes adventurers may encounter. These agents work tirelessly to destabilize entire regions, using Morgesh’s madness to spread chaos and discord. Warlocks wield eldritch horrors, while clerics of Morgesh twist divine magic into something unnatural and terrifying.   Maze, the Chosen of Morgesh, leads these clerics of chaos, his efforts nearly bringing entire nations to their knees.

Ethos of Morgesh

The tenets of Morgesh’s followers are as simple as they are terrifying:
  • Embrace madness. Only through the destruction of reason can one achieve true freedom.
  • Spread chaos. Wherever you walk, let nothing stand—destroy all that is built.
  • Twist the minds of others. Infect the world with Morgesh’s madness.
  • Destroy civilization. All structures of order must fall.
Morgesh’s alignment is Chaotic Evil because he seeks the complete dissolution of all order and reason. To Morgesh, creation itself is a lie, and only through chaos can true freedom be attained. His followers embody this destructive philosophy, aiming to reduce everything to madness and ruin.

Mind of a Madman

"In his eyes, I saw the end of reason, a place where logic drowns in madness. Maze does not rage—he simply knows. And what he knows is terrifying."   To meet Maze is to stand on the edge of sanity, peering into an abyss that few can comprehend. His mind, shattered and reassembled in the image of Morgesh, operates on a plane beyond reason. His calm demeanor belies the chaos inside, and his every word is like a knife twisting in the mind. Those who encounter him report visions of impossible shapes, fragments of thoughts that have no beginning or end, as if they are drowning in a torrent of madness. Maze does not need to shout—his madness is quiet, calculated, and utterly beyond understanding.

Destruction Unbridled

"We do not fight beasts, we fight the madness. It wears their skin, but inside… they are hollow, broken. Tavomia will fall to their chaos if we fail."   The orcs of the Jukkhag are not mere brutes; they are living avatars of chaos, driven by Morgesh’s curse. Towering 8-foot monsters, their eyes burn with the same madness that consumes their god. In their endless war with the Yurvonians, Sholeon nomads, and Stoneborn clans, the orcs leave nothing but destruction in their wake. Their attacks are not battles—they are storms of rage, with no regard for life or consequence. The orcs fight with the reckless fury of beasts, their only purpose to destroy. The Jukkhag, their homeland, is a battlefield of endless war, where the orcs wage an eternal conflict, driven by nothing but Morgesh’s desire to see the world undone.

The Lost Village

"They were all dead. Torn apart by hands unseen. The writing… I see it in my dreams still. It haunts me, even though no one should have survived to tell the tale."   In the heart of Nubindi, a village was found where every soul had been slaughtered. There were no signs of attackers, only strange symbols scrawled in blood across the walls—chaotic scribbles that no one could decipher. That night, the search party camped nearby and began to dream of horrors. By morning, they had turned on one another, driven mad by the lingering whispers of Morgesh. No one walked out of that village alive, yet the story persists. How it escaped remains a mystery, one that haunts all who hear it. The village stands abandoned to this day, cursed by the madness that claimed its inhabitants.

Writings of Madness

"We burned the pages, but still, the words crawled into our minds. Madness, they said. And yet… some of those maddened ramblings came to pass."   The writings of Morgesh’s followers are filled with incomprehensible ramblings, symbols that shift and twist, and passages that read like the ravings of the insane. Yet within the chaos, there are moments of unnerving clarity—portents of events that have come to pass. Some say that Morgesh’s madness allows his followers to glimpse truths beyond reason, seeing what the sane cannot. While much of what is written seems like nonsense, enough has been proven true to suggest that Morgesh’s followers possess a dangerous understanding of the Dream. Through madness, they perceive a reality that terrifies even the most rational minds.
