Braccia
"If the Knights of Braccia could agree one thing, it would be that they command one of the mightiest forces in Taurus, if of course they could agree on more than one thing" - Unknown Braccian Marshal.
Structure
The organization of Braccia is through a council of 6 orders of knights, each with one seat on The High Table. The Royal Order functions as the first among equals, the deciding vote. Therefore the government is closer to an Oligarchical Democracy than a monarchy (despite having a king). A serf of Braccia can become a knight through performing great deeds, the context of which decides which order they are inducted into. Its worth noting that even a Braccian of noble birth must perform great deeds to enter the orders, there is little to no nepotism.
The first of the Orders if the Royal Order, which functions as a default authority for non - important decisions. They also maintain the serf army, aswell the training of new knight recruits (before they swear their second oath and join their respective orders). Their colour is blue, and they are led by the standing King, at time of writing Nathaniel Oustain.
The Order of War is the only one to maintain a standing military of Knights, which function as Braccia's be all end all deterrent against the forces of evil. They were made famous more recently at the end of the fourth crimson incursion, where their charge ended the battle. Their colour is Red, and they are led by the younger Oustain Brother, Severinus.
The Order of Justice functions as a police force and inquisition all in one. They walk the lands of Braccia, investigating crimes and preaching the Joy of the Braccian philosophy (The Path). They are perhaps the most powerful of the Orders, as it is their responsibility to call a vote of no confidence in the King if they see he is not acting on the path. Their colours are White and Black, and they are led by Grand Inquisitor Epidicus.
The Order of Curators are the Teachers, Scholars and Bards of Braccia. They are the least respected of all the Orders, most seeing them as charlatans. They rarely go into combat, and as a result they only have one set of Shards, which is owned by their Lord, Camerium. Their colour is Gold.
The Order of Acreage are labourers (farmers, miners and grooms). They are treated with a certain respect by the other orders, rarely being contested in internal politics. However, in matters concerning all of Braccia they are seldom listened to. This trade off suits Knights of Acreage well, as they care not for what they cannot work. In war, Knights of Acreage have the highest percentage of their knights riding Ballesthounds, so are therefore a fearsome cavalry force. Their colours are various shades of green, and their Lord is Astaphium.
The final Order is somewhat controversial. The Order of Occult is the most ineffectual of all of them (while potentially being the most dangerous). They are almost all eldritch knights or wizards, and mysteriously have the second highest number of Shardbearers (leading to the rumour they know how to work shards, and are slowly stockpiling them to take over all of Braccia!).
They ignore external politics, preferring to unravel the mysteries of the universe. They are a laughing stock to the Cthonic Colleges of Everweld, and they refuse to work with each other. Their colour is Purple, and they are led by Ludovicium.
Assets
Rich in natural resources such as game, spices and gemstones. However, the somewhat recent prosperity of the Everweld Crown has eclipsed the trade in the area.
2 out of the 6 orders of knights focus almost solely in the art of war. The Royal Order maintains the serf portion of the Braccian Military, as well as siege weaponry. They average 2000 serfs per military campaign, with supporting machinery. The Order of War maintain a 1500 strong contingent of mounted knights, but this number climbs in the thousands if they can muster knights from the other 4 orders.
Braccia can also muster forces from the magical creatures that permeate its mountainous countryside, although this has only been necessary once. These forces might contain Minatours, Centaurs or even Mermen.
History
Braccia was founded in the year 589 AHL from the scattered western human kingdoms left over from Hadrius' conquest 500 years earlier. A man named Lisidorus wanted to create a country founded on the teachings outlined in Human legends. Of knights fighting for good and honor, defending the week etc. Since its founding Braccia has been slowly expanding, into human kingdoms by diplomacy, into dwarven kingdoms by blood.
Foreign Relations
Since the fourth crimson incursion public relations with the Braccians has increased substantially, they have been heralded as saviors of Navifor by Citizens of Everweld and The surface dwellers of Omtoweld. However, the Dwarves despise the Braccians, there has been 2 wars with the Dwarven Kingdoms, each resulting in a stalemate. Most historians regard this as a contest of opposites, or that the Braccians remind the Dwarves of the Elves.
Agriculture & Industry
The Braccians main agricultural power comes from extensive husbandry of oxen and goats, (earning them less than desirable nicknames). They do mine for precious gemstones in the lower mountains however.
Horses bred in Braccia are among the greatest in the world, of the highest pedigree. Each Braccian knight rides one of these faster than thou horses, and is seen as a badge of authority in Braccia itself.
