Rosenican Union

Tathilea's largest nation, forged largely between two long-time allies: the Angshire folk to the forested south, and the Chtitlan tribes that inhabit the central grasslands and deserts. To the north reside the begrudging Gaels, and on the island of Helias, a handful of the Prussic inhabitants pledged their allegiance.   Majorities accounted for, The Rosenican Union - or Rosenica, for those who like to save time and syllables - has become the proverbial melting pot for nearly every global culture, especially after the war, and especially in its capital. As varied as the people is the environment, encompassing everything from glaciers to deserts to tropical rainforests. Only to be expected for a nation so large. Rosenica's sheer size, however, is a blessing and a curse. After all, the authorities can only travel so fast. Out on the very ends of where anything resembling a trail will bring you, your future and fortune - or lack thereof - is entirely in your own hands.

Culture

"Rosenican Culture" is a massive misnomer, given that such a varied mixture of ethnicities inhabit this continent-sized nation. Without some similarities, however, Rosenica would have torn itself apart long ago, as handfuls of the northern Gael threaten to do on the regular (if only halfheartedly).

Demography and Population

Putting likely races and classes here for the time being!   Races: It's almost easier to list the exceptions here - Rosenica prides itself on being diverse, but there are several races that are simply more comfortable in their ancestral homelands. Notably missing are many reptilian races, who often find the entire Auroborean climate a little too dry. Dwarves are plentiful in the Gaelic north but rare south of The Impasse, usally inhabiting coastal cities near Bjorland.   There are a few remaining pockets of full-blooded elves, but populations are small compared to Granvilia and eastern Nasoq. Drow and a handful of Sea Elves tend to inhabit the shores of the Midnight Sea, as well as any caverns around Rosenica's two major inlets, but for the most part, everyone else blended together with the once very human Chtitlans long ago.   Kalashtar, however, are astonishingly common, particularly among those same Chtitlan tribes. And while smaller races are perhaps no more numerous than they are in other countries, they are uniquely welcome to form open societies.   Common Classes:
  • Artificer: All types, concentrated most heavily around large, industrialized Angshire cities and settled Gaelic dwarf clans. The largest exception to this rule are the Alchemists, who are fewer in number overall but fit well among Chtitlan Druids and wherever rum-runners are found. Most popular sub-classes - Battle Smith, Artillerist.
  • Druid: Most common in Chtitlan tribes and - occasionally - among nomadic Gaels. Pastoral Angshire towns sometimes play host to rarer Shepherds, while Wildfire Druids are often solitary. Popular sub-classes - Dreams, Stars, Grassland.
  • Fighter: Includes the veterans of longer-lived races and anyone who calls themselves a lawman. Some standing army exists but numbers are fewer in an era of determined peacetime. Other fighters include paramilitary or mercenary companies hired to protect railroad and airship prospects. Popular subs - Gunslinger, Cavalier, Arcane Archer, Renegade.
  • Ranger: Sprinkled about Rosenican empty spaces. Most likely to encounter a Wildfire Druid. Any people whose culture includes ceremonial warriors often have Rangers rather than Fighters. Popular subs: Hunter, Horizon Walker, Fey Wanderer.
  • Rogue: Outlaws, mostly, but there are also many Auroborean explorers that fit here. Every little aspiring Rogue has wanted to rob a train or blimp at some point. Popular in west Rosenica in particular, where trickery is baked into several racial identities. Popular subs: Scout, Swashbuckler, Thief.

Technological Level

Rosenica is a proudly innovative nation, spurred largely by an influx of bright-eyed immigrants and native goblins wanting to make things explode a name for themselves.   On the larger scale, railways and airship lines are beginning to gain popularity around the country, but thus far they are still localized to city centers. Budding inventors moving to these places to beg for grants are easy to spot - they're the ones ogling the engines.   On more portable levels, firearms are ubiquitous out in the wilder wastelands. If you can afford one, you have one. If you can't, then you don't leave town. Radio as a medium is gaining ground, especially for those with no magician shops nearby to sell them a sending stone - newspaper companies have mixed reactions, ranging from information warfare to setting up stations for themselves. This is far and away Rosenica's most popular export, particularly in far-flung island nations like Kyojin.
