Day of Black Sun

Remembering the end, and the beginning

Long ago, Tarroc fell to the armies of a cruel demon lord named Orcus. For ten years, he ruled the world, slaughtering those who stood in his way, until finally, on the ninth day of Eleasias, he was slain by the world's bravest and most powerful heroes. That day is now celebrated annually as the Day of Black Sun.

History

On the ninth of Eleasias in the 10th year of the Second Era, Orcus was banished from Tarroc once and for all by the Black Sun Warriors and the Silver Tail, freeing the world from his reign of terror. This day is remembered both in joy and in solemnity, for the lives that were lost and the civilizations that crumbled under his rule.

Execution

Once the sun rises, the holiday has begun. The daytime hours are spent celebrating and drinking with family, friends, and neighbors. Most towns and cities host the festivities in whatever public areas there may be. As the sun sets, villages and neighborhoods gather to watch it dip below the horizon, and the celebration ends. The night is spent reading poems dedicated to the great heroes who put an end to the Rule of Orcus , depicting scenes from the Battle of Black Sun, and hearing the tales of the tragedies that occurred, together with one's community. The holiday ends at midnight.

Participants

The ceremonies are held at community centers. For larger cities this may be a public park, or the center of the city. For smaller settlements this could be any popular gathering point. Every year one person is chosen to be the reader for the next year. The reader is tasked with memorizing the story of the Battle of Black Sun, and reciting it from memory at next year's festivities.
