The most common coins use in markets across Tarien, silver pieces are exchanged for everyday goods and services, with the most common rate being one day's manual labor for 2 silver pieces.  Some nations call these coins by unusual names - they are dimes in Galencia for example - and most mark them in some sort of unique way to help differentiate them from bits of steel that the unscrupulous might pass off as counterfeit.
