This book, which appears as a thin folio that contains only a few pages, is deceptively heavy. Its cover is typically of plain brown or black leather and while it has a clasp to hold it shut, it usually has no lock. When opened, a read finds ten pages of fine, thick vellum that hold ink well. It is of sufficient quality to hold spells.

As they flip through the pages, however, they find that once they reach the fifth page, there are always five pages to the front and five pages to the back. No matter how far forward the flip, the book always seems to produce additional pages.

The book itself is immune to the effects of decay and damage from mundane sources such as water, fire, and smoke. Pages torn from the book, however, quickly deteriorate, turning to dust in the reader's hands.
