The Venomous Demesne

The Venomous Demesne's origin lies veiled in shadow and mystery. Legends speak of a pact made between the first tiefling warlocks on Noyatu and ancient beings of shadow, granting them power and the ability to conceal their city from prying eyes. Over the centuries, the city grew as new families of tiefling warlocks emerged, each contributing to its power and influence.   Centuries ago, a pact was said to have been forged between a group of tiefling warlocks and ancient beings of shadow. In exchange for their loyalty and servitude, these warlocks were granted power and the means to conceal their city from prying eyes. With their newfound arcane might, they established the foundations of what would become the Venomous Demesne. Over time, new families of tiefling warlocks emerged, each possessing their own unique magical abilities and ambitions. These families vied for power and influence within the hidden city, constantly engaging in subtle political maneuvering, alliances, and rivalries. They solidified their control over the Venomous Demesne through their mastery of dark magic and the crafting of malevolent wonders. Their isolationist ideals blocked out all influence from the Great Houses of Noyatu so no dragonmarked individuals originate from the city.   The Venomous Demesne remained hidden from the outside world, shielded by powerful illusions and concealed in a realm of its own. Not even during the conquests of the Wynarn Empire was its location ever publically revealed. Its location remained a closely guarded secret, known only to those who had been initiated into the city's mysteries. This seclusion preserved the city's unique culture, allowing it to flourish and develop its own customs and traditions away from prying eyes. There are whispers that it is located within the forests in southwestern Droaam. The tiefling families of the Veiled Citadel stayed neutral during the War of the Five Nations. They avoided all major conflicts and traveled solely by teleportation magic if the families had business outside the city. Only after the dust settled did the Conclave of Shadows go to The Great Crag to create a pact with the Daughters of Sora Kell. They became an official settlement of the newly formed monstrous nation.

The Conclave of Shadows

The governance of the Venomous Demesne is primarily structured around the families of tiefling warlocks, each vying for power and influence. These families engage in subtle political maneuvering and clandestine alliances, constantly striving to outwit and outmaneuver their rivals. The ruling council, known as the Conclave of Shadows, comprises representatives from the most powerful families, who meet in secret to make decisions affecting the city's affairs.

Nightwatch

The city's police force, known as the Nightwatch, consists of highly trained tiefling rogues and skilled spellcasters. Tasked with maintaining law and order, they possess an intricate knowledge of the city's dark alleyways and hidden passages. The Nightwatch operates with an iron grip, ensuring that crimes are swiftly investigated and met with ruthless retribution. Rumors persist of a clandestine group within the Nightwatch, the Shadow Cloaks, who deal with matters that require a more covert approach.

Mysterious Transactions

The Venomous Demesne thrives on a unique blend of legitimate and illicit trade. The city is renowned as a hub for the procurement of rare and forbidden artifacts, attracting collectors, dark wizards, and adventurers seeking otherworldly power. The Bazaar of Shadows, a sprawling marketplace adorned with mysterious stalls, is where merchants, peddlers, and smugglers converge to trade in magical curiosities, enchanted weapons, and forbidden tomes. It's important to note that while the Venomous Demesne engages in trade and commerce, its exports often cater to a specific market of individuals interested in dark magic, forbidden artifacts, and esoteric knowledge. The city's imports and exports reflect its unique position as a hub of occult practices and the specialized skills of its inhabitants.   The Venomous Demesne imports exotic and hard-to-find spell components from distant lands. These include rare herbs, magical crystals, enchanted bones, and other ingredients used in the creation of potent spells and rituals. The ruling families and the affluent elite of the Venomous Demesne import luxury goods from distant lands. This includes fine jewelry, exquisite fabrics, precious gemstones, and other opulent items that signify status and wealth.   The city exports dark and mysterious artifacts crafted by the skilled artisans of the Venomous Demesne. These can range from cursed weapons and enchanted amulets to magical constructs and powerful talismans, sought after by collectors, adventurers, and practitioners of the occult. The alchemists and apothecaries of the Venomous Demesne excel in brewing potent potions and elixirs. These magical concoctions, crafted with rare ingredients and secret recipes, are exported to other realms, catering to those seeking unique and powerful elixirs.

Exploring the Dark

Given the secretive and insular nature of the Venomous Demesne, certain residents may harbor suspicion and wariness towards outsiders, including adventurers. They may view adventurers as potential threats to the city's secrecy, disrupters of its delicate balance, or as opportunistic individuals seeking to exploit the city's resources or arcane secrets. However, many residents, especially those who are drawn to the dark arts or the study of forbidden knowledge, may feel curious and fascinated by the arrival of adventurers. They see them as potential sources of exotic tales, new insights, and valuable artifacts. Adventurers often bring stories of their quests, encounters with otherworldly beings, and the acquisition of rare magical items, which can captivate the interest of the city's denizens.
