Session 6

General Summary

Session Summary: Velnir 18–19, 472 HE

With the echoes of their past battles still fresh in their minds, the party set their sights on the Clifftop Observatory. But first—a long rest. Because nothing ruins a heroic journey quite like exhaustion.

A Rainy Detour and a Flying Nightmare

The morning started off with high hopes, though Dezzy, leading the way, got slightly lost in the rain, making the journey longer than expected. The terrain began to shift beneath them, shards of glassy crystal crunching underfoot as they neared the cliffs.   Rainbow, never one to pass up shiny things, immediately started pocketing as much crystal as possible.   Then came the roar.   A sapphire dragon streaked across the sky, its piercing cry slicing through the stormy air. The party dove into the cover of the trees, holding their breath as the dragon soared overhead. It passed without noticing them—for now. With a collective sigh of relief, they pressed on.

A Light Bridge and a Bug Problem

Arriving at the observatory’s ruins, the party located a keyhole for the moonstone prism. Upon inserting it, a shimmering bridge of light stretched out before them, leading to the entrance.   Inside, they were greeted—not by knowledge or wisdom—but by screeching stirges feasting on two kobolds. As if sensing fresh blood, six of the creatures broke away and descended upon the party.   Gurgi, noble companion that he was, took a direct hit… and died instantly. The party fought back with fury, aiding the kobolds in eliminating the pests.   Rainbow, unwilling to risk more combat just yet, called out, “Friend or foe, ye kobolds?”   The kobolds, Mec and Min, declared loyalty to Sparkrender, the Sky King. This immediately raised red flags—especially since they were related to Myla, the kobold librarian back at Dragon’s Rest. Through some careful persuasion, Rainbow convinced them to reconsider their loyalties and go speak with Myla.   With that settled, the party investigated the rotunda, where an ancient ritual was said to awaken and empower Sparkrender. They noted the approaching comet, suspecting it might play a key role. Zaruk, being Zaruk, attempted to pluck it from the sky. Unfortunately, physics remained unchanged.

Names, Deception, and a Tactical Retreat

The party then discovered small dragon effigies, each labeled with the names of dragons:
  • Astalagan (Bronze)
  • Clyssavar (Gold)
  • Eldenemir (Blue)
  • Sharruth (Red)
  • Turadaer (Brass)
An argument ensued over whether to deal with Sparkrender now or continue searching for Aidron, the missing scholar. Choosing the latter, they discovered a pulley system leading up to the observatory but ultimately crossed a bridge instead, stumbling upon a group of kobold guards.   Thinking fast, Rainbow bluffed her way through, claiming to be a supervisor sent by Sparkrender. Miraculously, the kobolds believed her, scampering off to "secure" the cliffs.

Bridges, Towers, and an Owl’s Unexpected Utility

Deciding to explore further, the party noticed another separate tower and devised a plan:
  • Dez transformed into a giant owl.
  • She stole the key from the first light bridge.
  • She gave it to Zaruk, allowing him to activate the next bridge.
  • Thus, the party crossed into the crumbling tower.

A Journal, A Seagull, and A Pitiful Plummet

Inside the tower, Rainbow discovered a locked journal with an arcane rune trap over it. Instead of using magic, Dez brilliantly decided to scratch at it to deactivate it. While she did succeed, her next move—trying to break the lock—ended in catastrophic failure. Instead of hitting the lock, she smashed herself in the face with the journal.   Zaruk, with the patience of a saint, gently took the journal and simply pulled the lock open. Inside, the first line read:   “To ye four scholars: point your eyes toward the Dragon’s light, for it guides your descent into knowledge.”   Armed with new information, Rainbow and Dez crossed another bridge to interrogate more kobolds. They learned:   1. They had no idea what “Dragon’s Light” meant.
2. Aidron was trapped in the ruins.
That was enough to set the party on a new course. They rejoined the others, removed the key to the light bridge (so the kobolds couldn’t follow), and went searching for Aidron.   The pulley system led down toward his location. Zaruk began lowering Dez, Rainbow, and Ioane carefully… until a seagull distracted him.   He let go of the rope.   Dez and Rainbow plummeted into the water, now soaked and unimpressed.   Still, they pressed on, discovering a collapsed wall. The party worked together to clear an opening, and Dez called out: “Hello, Aidron, is that you?”   A voice replied from the darkness.

Aidron’s Deal and the Final Battle

Aidron, once found, offered to help defeat Sparkrender. However, Dez remained skeptical. She asked if he’d reconsider Runara’s teachings, but he refused—though he did agree to speak with her peacefully after the battle.   As a sign of good faith, he gifted the party a Scroll of Hold Person and a +1 Battleaxe.   Thus, the party ascended toward Sparkrender’s lair.   Four alabaster statues of scholars loomed in the chamber. Broken stained glass windows cast eerie multicolored light, refracting the Dragon’s Light throughout the room.

The Battle Against the Sky King

Rainbow struck first with a devastating sneak attack.   Then Sparkrender retaliated—and he did not hold back.   The dragon nearly killed Dez and Zaruk outright, dropping them in an instant.   But Ioane, fueled by fury and righteous vengeance, let out a battle cry and leapt into the air—cleaving Sparkrender in two.

Victory and a Final Choice

With their foes vanquished, the party did what any respectable adventurers would do—butchered Sparkrender for parts.   Aidron, unable to stomach it, departed for Dragon’s Rest to speak with Runara.   The party, triumphant, returned shortly after.   By the time they arrived, Aidron and Runara were deep in conversation, and it appeared to be going well.   Runara turned to the party, thanking them for their efforts. She gifted each of them a pearl and another potion of healing, ensuring they were well-rewarded for their heroism.

The End… For Now

Stormwreck Isle held its share of secrets, battles, and mysteries, but for now, the party had brought peace to Dragon’s Rest.   But the adventure is never truly over—what lies ahead remains to be seen…
