Stormwreck Session 3
General Summary
Igmusday, Velnir 17, 472 HE (Part Two)
Our heroes, now fully immersed in the mysteries of the myconid caves, began the day with a crash course in mushroom diplomacy. Rainbow and Dezzy startled two little mushroom folk, who responded with a defensive spore cloud. Thinking quickly, Rainbow popped a glowing mushroom she had foraged earlier, which didn't help, but once the cloud reached the party, it convieniently allowed them to communicate telepathically with the myconids. Unfortunately, this also led to the delightful chaos of hearing each other’s thoughts—unfiltered opinions and all. Through the mental cacophony, Rainbow explained their quest, and the myconids cryptically replied: “Poison creeps. Gardens twist, life wilts. Leader, Sinensa, weak. We suffer, seek remedy.” Before the sprouts could guide them further, a hostile violet fungus attacked, spraying necrotic spores. Zaruk, driven by rage (and perhaps lingering badger bloodlust), landed a glorious Nat 20 and charged into action. Dezzy joined him, delivering the killing blow with her black willow staff. The battle continued when another malicious fungus attacked one of the myconid sprouts. Rainbow heroically cast Spare the Dying, saving the sprout and carrying it to safety. Ioane and Zaruk teamed up to smash the second creature into unrecognizable sludge. When Dezzy discovered yet another of the vile fungi, the party promptly dispatched it with their now-proven teamwork. Their courage attracted the attention of Conid, a larger and more authoritative myconid. Acknowledging their strength, Conid invited the party to help defeat the blight afflicting the myconids and offered to guide them deeper into the caves. With a mix of curiosity and determination, the party agreed.Of Stirges, Crystals, and Catatonic Mushrooms
Conid led the group further into the cave, where the stench of decay grew unbearable—well, unbearable for everyone except Ioane, who strategically decided breathing is optional. Along the way, Dezzy identified a gelatinous nest as belonging to stirges, those delightful bloodsucking bat-mosquito hybrids. Naturally, she poked the proverbial (and literal) nest, unleashing a swarm of angry stirges. In the ensuing chaos, the party showed off their combat prowess. Even Conid got in on the action, stomping the last stirge with surprising ferocity. With the immediate threat eliminated, Rainbow suggested the myconids stay behind to avoid further danger. The party pressed on, encountering six more myconids—four in a catatonic state while two tended to them. Initially distrustful, the caretakers relaxed when Conid vouched for the party. The myconids explained the source of their suffering: a choking fire deep in the earth, poisoning their leader, Sinensa, and threatening their entire colony. "Heart poisoned. Danger. Go, if courage holds,” they warned. Rainbow, in peak impulsive form, ate a heartcap mushroom to test its properties, gaining 5 HP she didn’t need. The group decided to press on, guided by a mix of desperation and morbid curiosity.Smoke, Fire, and Big Scaly Problems
In Sinensa’s sanctum, Ioane attempted to heal the myconid leader, offering temporary relief. Sinensa conveyed that the root of the sickness persisted and sent an image of a ruby morel, urging them to bring it to Tarak as thanks for their kindness. As the party turned to leave, another myconid warned ominously, “Path dangerous, guarded by darkness. Not just fire, something old watches, waits.” The party descended into a smoky cavern, devoid of fungal growth but teeming with clusters of shimmering crystals. Among them, they found a pulsing orange crystal blocking a fissure and a cluster of ominous purple crystals venting the toxic fumes. Realizing the ventilation problem was the root cause of the blight, Zaruk stepped forward to resolve it with his axe. Though his heroic swing was slightly marred by a slip, he cracked the orange crystal. Ioane followed up with flair, Conveniently shattering it completely and releasing the fumes into the fissure. As the smoke cleared, an obsidian egg tumbled from the fissure, hatching into a fiery snake-like creature. The party barely had time to react before three fume drakes emerged from the depths, eager to join the fray. The battle was fierce but showcased the group’s growth. Zaruk and Ioane tag-teamed the fire snake, with Ioane delivering a spectacular killing blow, cartwheeling across the battlefield and flaying the creature from nose to tail. Dezzy, finally remembering she had a potent spell in her arsenal, brought the drakes to the brink of defeat, leaving the rest of the party to finish them off.A Well-Earned Rest
With the blight vanquished and the myconids saved, the party paused for a much-needed break. The caves, though still eerie, felt lighter, the oppressive energy lifting as the air cleared. The myconids’ gratitude was palpable, and the adventurers knew their actions had not only saved the colony but forged bonds and paved the way for whatever lay ahead. What could possibly be next for our fearless, mushroom-whispering heroes? Stay tuned!Rewards Granted
