Aeris Vel’Quinar (AIR-iss Vel-KIH-nar)

The Arbiter’s Heir Aeris Thalorin Vel’Quinar

Aeris Vel’Quinar, firstborn of Maerion Vel’Quinar, Lord Arbiter of the Moonlit Court of Eithwyn, was raised in a world of strict laws, refined intellect, and structured governance. As the heir to a prestigious High Elven family, he was groomed for diplomacy, politics, and leadership—a shining example of Eithwyn’s traditions and discipline. But rather than following in his father’s footsteps as a judge or statesman, Aeris swore himself to Umbra, the God of Shadows, Knowledge, and Consequences, choosing a path that values unseen truths and justice beyond mere law.   Unlike many noble families, the Vel’Quinar lineage has long held ties to Umbra, and Aeris’ decision to become a paladin was not seen as defiance but as a natural step toward understanding the balance of justice. His father, Maerion, even encouraged his journey, believing that gaining firsthand experience in the outside world, especially in times of peace, would shape him into a stronger leader for the future. However, while Maerion intends for Aeris to return with greater wisdom and practical understanding, the world may teach Aeris lessons his father never anticipated.   Though charming, well-spoken, and undeniably intelligent, Aeris is woefully inexperienced when it comes to the realities of the world. His upbringing taught him rules, honor, and discipline, but it never prepared him for the gray areas of morality, the unpredictability of people, or the sheer absurdity of life outside the rigid structure of Eithwyn. He takes promises literally, struggles to grasp sarcasm, and assumes others act in good faith—a mindset that is quickly being tested as he ventures beyond the familiarity of his homeland.   Naïve to the deeper, hidden truths of his own family, Aeris believes in the righteousness of his lineage. But as he begins to witness the harsh reality of the world—and perhaps uncover secrets about Eithwyn itself—he will be forced to confront a question that shakes the foundation of everything he knows: What is justice, really?

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Aeris is in peak physical condition, with a lean yet athletic build suited for agility, endurance, and precision over raw strength. His movements are deliberate and controlled, reflecting his noble training and combat discipline. Years of rigorous education in swordplay, defense, and martial techniques have given him exceptional reflexes, stamina, and coordination. However, he lacks the brute force of larger warriors and has little experience with prolonged hardship, making him untested in true survival conditions. While his form and technique are nearly flawless, his ability to endure chaos and unpredictability remains uncertain.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Aeris Vel’Quinar was the firstborn son of Maerion Vel’Quinar, Lord Arbiter of the Moonlit Court of Eithwyn, and a scion of one of the most influential elven families in Tanaria. From the moment he could walk, he was expected to embody the ideals of his noble lineage—discipline, intellect, and unwavering adherence to law.   His childhood was one of rigorous education, etiquette, and philosophy, filled with lessons on governance, law, and strategy. He was trained in diplomacy, swordplay, and the judicial practices of Eithwyn, all meant to shape him into an heir worthy of his father’s station. Though raised with formality and structure, he was never unloved, just expected to meet impossibly high standards. His father, while strict, viewed Aeris not just as a son but as a future leader. His mother, though more distant, was a scholar devoted to the study of Umbra’s mysteries, reinforcing his family’s deep connection to the God of Shadows, Knowledge, and Consequences.   Unlike many high elven children, Aeris was not coddled—his tutors and trainers ensured he understood that nobility was not simply a birthright but a responsibility. He excelled in his lessons, but his world was isolated, pristine, and carefully controlled—a realm where justice was absolute and the law was the foundation of order. He knew of the world beyond Eithwyn, but only in theory.

The Path of the Paladin

It was assumed that Aeris would one day take his father’s place, either as an Arbiter of the Moonlit Court or in another esteemed role within Eithwyn’s governance. But rather than taking a traditional political or judicial path, Aeris felt a calling to Umbra—not as a scholar or a judge, but as a Paladin.   His decision wasn’t rebellious—his family had long held ties to Umbra, and the faith of the shadowed god was deeply entwined with the ideals of Eithwyn’s legal system. Rather, it was a way for him to embody justice more directly. He did not seek the battlefield for glory, nor did he desire to be a soldier—he wanted to wield justice with his own hands, not just dictate it from the halls of power.   His father, while surprised, approved. Maerion believed that justice, when carried by a blade, must be tempered with wisdom—and Aeris, having never known life outside his city's walls, lacked the experience needed to truly understand the world he sought to govern. Thus, Maerion allowed his son to take his vows as a Paladin of Umbra and leave Eithwyn to gain practical knowledge of justice, law, and the realities beyond their homeland.

Sexuality

Aeris doesn’t form attraction based on fleeting encounters or appearances alone. He needs a deeper connection—intellectual, emotional, or ideological—before he feels any genuine romantic or physical desire. Given his noble background, he was likely taught restraint and control over impulses, reinforcing his preference for bonds built over time.   While he isn’t the type to pursue casual flings, he is open to attraction toward both men and women. His structured upbringing means he never had the freedom to explore those feelings before now, but as he experiences more of the world, he may realize his affections aren’t bound by gender.   He approaches romance like a courtship, deliberate and formal—not because he lacks passion, but because he respects the weight of commitment. Once he develops feelings, he is intensely loyal, protective, and deeply devoted—but he may struggle with expressing vulnerability, unsure how to separate duty from emotion.   He’s someone who loves with intent and depth, but he won’t recognize his own feelings easily—he may mistake admiration for respect, devotion for duty, or affection for mere camaraderie, until someone forces him to acknowledge what’s truly in his heart.

Education

As the firstborn of the Lord Arbiter of the Moonlit Court, Aeris received an elite, highly structured education from the finest scholars, judges, and warriors in Eithwyn. His upbringing was not just about learning facts and skills, but about mastering the principles of law, governance, and philosophy—a reflection of his noble status and future responsibilities.
Core Education
  • Law & Governance – Raised in the political and judicial heart of Eithwyn, Aeris was trained in elven law, diplomacy, and the philosophies of justice from a young age. He studied under the Arbiters of the Moonlit Court, learning how to interpret and apply Eithwyn’s legal system, as well as the broader laws of Tanaria. He is well-versed in legal precedent, treaties, and the balance between justice and consequence.
  • Rhetoric & Oratory – As a noble, he was trained to command a room with words alone. He is highly skilled in debate, negotiation, and persuasive speech, able to hold his own in any courtly setting. He speaks with measured confidence and precision, rarely wasting words.
  • Philosophy & Ethics – His education emphasized moral reasoning, the role of law in society, and the philosophical interpretations of justice, knowledge, and power. He studied the works of elven scholars, religious texts dedicated to Umbra, and historical accounts of rulership and governance.
  • Religious Studies (Umbra & the Prime Deities) – Due to his family’s ties to Umbra, Aeris was deeply educated in the theology of the Prime Deities, with a focus on knowledge, balance, and the weight of consequence. He was taught the importance of truth, unseen justice, and the reality that laws alone cannot create order—wisdom must guide them.
  • History & Warfare – Aeris studied the history of Eithwyn, its alliances, and its conflicts, as well as military strategy and tactics. He was expected to understand not just how battles were won, but why wars were fought, and how rulers maintained peace.
Combat Training
  • Swordsmanship (Elven Dueling & Battle Tactics) – Trained in graceful yet lethal swordplay, Aeris excels in one-on-one combat, precision strikes, and battlefield control. His technique is based on fluid movement, economy of action, and the ability to counter with precision rather than brute force.
  • Shield & Defensive Techniques – Though he is not a brawler or brute warrior, Aeris understands the value of defense and control. He was trained in shield work, parries, and defensive formations, ensuring that his combat style is as tactical as it is efficient.
  • Mounted Combat – As part of his noble education, he was trained to fight on horseback, though he prefers ground combat due to his focus on precision and discipline.
  • Magical Combat & Divine Channeling – As a Paladin of Umbra, Aeris learned to channel divine magic, focusing on enhancing his combat abilities, sensing deception, and enforcing justice through divine means. His magic is precise and restrained, meant for protection, revelation, and controlled strikes rather than raw destruction.
Weaknesses in His Education
  • Lack of Practical Experience – Aeris knows the laws, but he has never seen them broken in ways that challenge his worldview. His education was pristine, structured, and theoretical, meaning he is brilliant in controlled environments but lacks the experience to handle chaos, deception, and the moral gray areas of the real world.
  • Limited Social Awareness – He understands formal etiquette, diplomacy, and noble politics, but he is unfamiliar with casual interaction, street smarts, or the nuances of manipulation outside of structured debate. Sarcasm, humor, and subtle dishonesty often go over his head.
  • Rigid Thinking – He was raised in an environment where law, order, and structure were absolute. Though he is beginning to question the rigidity of his upbringing, his instincts still lean toward order over adaptability. He struggles with unconventional problem-solving, preferring structured logic over improvisation.
Aeris is exceptionally well-educated in law, philosophy, and combat, with a deep understanding of justice, rhetoric, and governance. However, his lack of firsthand experience outside of Eithwyn leaves him unprepared for the complexities of the real world. He is an expert in rules and ideals but is still learning what it means to enforce them in a world where not everything is black and white.

Elûndor

Elûndor is more than a steed to Aeris—he is a companion, a silent listener on the endless roads that stretch before them. Where others travel with retainers or comrades, Aeris rides alone, his voice often the only sound between them. He speaks to Elûndor as he would a friend, recounting his thoughts, his doubts, his triumphs, knowing the horse will never judge, only listen. In return, Elûndor responds in his own way—a flick of an ear, a huff of breath, the steady, grounding presence of a creature who does not question, only understands. The silvery-gray horse is swift and sure-footed, weaving through dense forests with ease, carrying Aeris through lands both familiar and unknown. He is not just a mount; he is Aeris’ anchor in solitude, a quiet, unwavering presence in a world that often feels too vast, too uncertain.

Speech

Aeris speaks in a calm, deliberate tone, rarely allowing emotion to color his words unless he intends it. His pitch is mid to low, smooth yet firm, carrying an air of quiet authority. He never raises his voice unnecessarily, preferring to let conviction and precision make his point rather than volume. His accent is refined, distinctly elven, shaped by noble upbringing and formal education, with crisp enunciation and an absence of slang. His dialect is elevated but not excessively flowery, leaning toward structured, articulate speech rather than poetic flourishes. Though he was raised with formality, his speech is not ornamental—every word has purpose. He has no speech impediments but speaks with measured pacing, pausing slightly before responding to choose his words carefully. While his manner of speaking is effortless among scholars and nobility, it can come across as too rigid or overly serious in informal settings, especially when sarcasm or casual banter goes over his head.
