She made the mistake of falling in love with a human ambassador from the city of Stoneport, with the odd name of King Arric Lee. The affair lasted for two years and resulted in their son Tanalir. The Duchess was almost stripped of her title when it was found out, and that Lee was no ambassador. He was a smooth talking sailor and a con artist.
As the Duchess neared retirement age the issue of succession came up. The elves in the region found it distasteful for a half breed bastard to take the seat. Knowing this and dealing with the constant reminders his whole life, Tanalir retreated more and more into the dense forests that make up the Westfvall kingdom.
One day he came home to find his mother's body, stabbed through the heart with a ceremonial dagger. It was clear that this was a murder with political intention. Using his talent for tracking he found the trail leading east, towards the Eigerlands.
Didn't his cousin and childhood friend, Nicovar Thelpyteris, say he was seeing a girl in the town of Porsk? Baroness' daughter or something? Perhaps he could find a lead somewhere in town…
